Living Sasquatch – your very own virtual Bigfoot!

May 1st, 2009 by LG Blog UK

The link of the morning in our office (Congrats Mike!) was Living Sasquatch - Sasquatch might be better known as Bigfoot over here.. At least I didn't get it immediately, could just be me though! By either printing off the footprint, or downloading it to your phone and then filming it through your webcam and the site's built-in system you can make your own video clips of the programmable Yeti (they are Yeti, right!?). Cleverly the size of your Sasquatch can be adjusted simply by downloading bigger/smaller footprints - Sasquatch will always be to the same scale as his mark -...

We want Art, not Ads

April 28th, 2009 by LG Blog UK

Kevin sent me this link earlier, about an art collective in New York that paint over all illegal fly posting sites and put art up in their place. As Kevin put it 'Nice!': ...

Dinosaurs in Space and a Dictionary with a Difference!

April 24th, 2009 by LG Blog UK

This made me smile this morning so I thought I'd share it: Now, as a frequent visitor to XKCD I'm aware there are others with a much bigger interest in dinosaurs than me, but I've found it impossible to shift the idea of T-Rex and Brontosaurus's floating around the universe in bespoke space suits... Like Jacques, I want to believe! Utterly unrelated other than also starting with a D and being a newly discovered joy, My First Dictionary is not like other dictionaries.. An educational blog with a 'word a day' theme created by a Librarian, but there's a twist; Horsley takes...

Retro gaming to wear!

April 17th, 2009 by LG Blog UK

OK, it's Friday on a four day week and the day got away from me a bit so I'm afraid the piece of literary genius I was intending to bring to you today will have to wait, but in it's place, I just have to share this with you. This is totally BRILLIANT! It's an idea I wish I'd had first and I'm definitely going to spend the weekend trying to decide on what my skirt will look like.* * assuming I actually get around to buying the necessary materials - and indeed sowing machine - required! Ladies and Gentlemen, I give you......

CSS Naked Day – show off your tomorrow!

April 8th, 2009 by LG Blog UK

Tomorrow is the fourth annual 'CSS Naked Day' The idea behind this event is to promote Web Standards. Plain and simple. This includes proper use of (x)html, semantic markup, a good hierarchy structure, and of course, a good 'ol play on words. It's time to show off your . This is not about getting traffic or making money. There are no ads on this site, nor will there ever be. This is about you, the people; getting naked. Started in 2005 by Dustin Diaz to promote Web Standards, a good semantic mark-up and proper hierarchy structures, the first Naked day...

Belated Ada Lovelace Day

March 25th, 2009 by LG Blog UK

So I'm going with being fashionably late on this one (yes, fashionable, not dreadfully disorganised and forgetful at all!) yesterday was Ada Lovelace Day; an international day of blogging to draw attention to women excelling in technology. The Finding Ada site explains better than I could: Women’s contributions often go unacknowledged, their innovations seldom mentioned, their faces rarely recognised. We want you to tell the world about these unsung heroines. Entrepreneurs, innovators, sysadmins, programmers, designers, games developers, hardware experts, tech journalists, tech consultants. The list of tech-related careers is endless. Recent research by psychologist Penelope Lockwood discovered that women need to see female...

Broad Brushstrokes

March 24th, 2009 by LG Blog UK

A colleague stumbled across this beautiful site from Spanish musician Labuat, and I spent a disproportionate chunk of the morning hypnotised by it. You have to give it a minute to load, (which confused me at first), but believe me it's well worth it. Just try not to waste as much time at work as I did. Try it for yourself...

The remote that’ll make you sweat and a photography project to make you think

March 20th, 2009 by LG Blog UK

I found this on Engadget yesterday: Crazy us, we thought that a remote control was meant to keep you on the couch -- it does seem rather counter-intuitive to build one that makes you leave your seat and jump around within arm's reach of the TV set. But when this guy saw an over-sized novelty remote at Brookstone, he knew that he had to have it. Not only that, but he had to best it -- by fashioning a controller for Windows Media Center so large that one would need an entire appendage to get any use out of the thing....

Ceiling cat for everyone!

March 13th, 2009 by LG Blog UK

The sun is shining (probably.. somewhere behind all those clouds) and the birds are singing, it's almost Spring! So I decided to have a bit of a spring clean of my emails, nothing to do with the server struggling with a years worth of undeleted email honest! I came across something I thought I'd shared with you at the time, but apparently I was reckless and selfish and didn't share. I'm sorry, it's a vice I have. Along with a love of biscuits and shoes. Anyway, what I wanted to share was from a lovely blog 'of happy art' called Tubbypaws which...
