Diesel’s “Frankenwatch!”

May 28th, 2009 by Dave@LGUK

Diesel's new "Freak of Nature" watch - or the 'Frankenwatch' as Boing Boing dubbed it yesterday - fuses "a steel oval case with a gold square surrounding a split-faced multi-colored chronograph dial" and two different watch-band halves to create this odd looking creation: According to Diesel's Timeframe site This hybrid watch is the pinnacle of Diesel design. A sleek bracelet-style watch fuses with a casual leather strap watch to create this signature Diesel timepiece. It's certainly different! There is a slightly more subtle version in silver and black: ...but surely if you're going for this style of watch you're not after...

Wooden Phones from Russia

March 18th, 2009 by Dave@LGUK

As seen on englishrussia.com, I give you handmade wooden cellphones from Russia. The (uncredited) maker of these handsets fully disassembles the devices and carves a bespoke, apple tree wood case for each of them. Every small part gets its own wooden enclosure - the antenna... ...the sim-card... ...the battery... ...all of it. Someone, somewhere in Russia has also created a wooden charger which was used by Chechen troops to charge their cellphones while hiding in woods... Personally, I'm holding out for the bluetooth...

Something a little light-hearted for the weekend that I couldn't resist sharing with everyone. The wonderfully anthropomorphic Faces In Places. A collection of often-missed everyday objects staring straight back at...

Link/worrying product of the day:

Play-doh perfume. Perhaps more worryingly, they have a whole range including Eau de Crayon, Pina Colada (I'd be worried about smelling like I'd thrown my drink down my top!) Paint and - here's the worrying one for me - Glue "Glue Scented Pick-Me-Up Cologne Spray". They obviously saw that concern coming though: Did you get in trouble in elementary school for eating paste? The Perpetual Kid did.... This cologne captures the scent of airplane or car modeling glue, a guaranteed trip down memory lane, and no, it is not toxic, and NO, it will NOT make you high… They also do some US...

50 Strange Buildings of the World

December 4th, 2008 by Dave@LGUK

- by Village of Joy I've only seen 3 of these buildings in person (the 2 in London and the Lotus temple in India) all of which are at the less-extreme end of the scope of strange on display. Some of the others are .. deformed, bizarre or mind(and material!)-bending! It actually hurts my eyes to look at some of these buildings! Not because they are ugly or garish, but because they play with dimensions so much, they make me slightly queasy. It's very unsettling! Having said that I find it hard to pick a favourite - my opinion shifts every time I...

Guitar Hero.. on a bike?!

November 20th, 2008 by Dave@LGUK

Someone just emailed this to me: Kudos to all involved, it must've taken ages getting everything set out just right! Apparently the daring cyclist is Jaron Albertin. The video was made by an agency called Drago5 (I think they may mean Droga5), the song is 'Prisoner of Society' by The Living End. Found via...

From the cute to the curious..

September 30th, 2008 by Dave@LGUK

The wonders of the web, eh? Here's a couple of photos I wanted to share... She's a petite 20 inches (50cm) tall and weighs a mere 5kg (11 pounds) but this unicycling robot, called "Murata Seiko-chan", is getting quite a lot of attention today. Seiko-chan was developed by Japanese electronics maker Murata Manufacturing Co. as a follow up to their Seisaku-kun model from 2005. Both 'she' and the cyclist robot you can see following her are able to balance and move around on their wheel(s) due to two gyro sensors mounted in their bodies. She also blushes - you can't see it...
