As seen on englishrussia.com, I give you handmade wooden cellphones from Russia. The (uncredited) maker of these handsets fully disassembles the devices and carves a bespoke, apple tree wood case for each of them. Every small part gets its own wooden enclosure - the antenna... ...the sim-card... ...the battery... ...all of it. Someone, somewhere in Russia has also created a wooden charger which was used by Chechen troops to charge their cellphones while hiding in woods... Personally, I'm holding out for the bluetooth...

On the hunt for lovely and original gifts I stumbled across Shielagh Tacey, an artist and designer living and working in Glasgow, Scotland who makes unique hand woven textile products using a traditional wooden floor loom. Way back in March last year, Helen mentioned the webshop Etsy in passing. I thought I'd draw your attention to it again as it's well worth another visit. A place for artisans to sell their handmade goods, Etsy can consume hours of your time, and huge chunks of your cash if you let it.
