Google’s Android operating system is quickly overtaking Apple’s share of the smartphone market – with Google activating 100,000 new Android phones everyday, compared with just 30,000 daily last year. Google state they are shipping 9 million Android phones every quarter compared to 8.75 million iPhones*, a truly meteoric rise for an operating system that was only launched in late 2008.
LG have released a booklet explaining all there is to know about Android to coincide with the release of their latest Android phone, the Optimus GT540. This talks you through simple things like the use of the Calendar and how to...

LG take Android to the next level with the LU2300
April 13th, 2010 by LG Blog UK
I’m a big fan of the LG GW620 InTouch Max. It was a great introduction to Android for first time smart phone users, with many fans including the Gadget Show’s John Bentley. Now it looks like LG have decided to create an android phone for the serious smartphone user.
Allow me to introduce the InTouch Max’s big brother, the LG LU2300. With a 1GHz processor as standard it packs enough of a punch to compete for the affections of android smartphone users with the likes of the Sony Ericsson Xperia X10 and the HTC Legend.
Features:
3.5inch capacitive touchscreen
1GHz Snapdragon Processor
4 line landcape...

Augmented reality in your pocket – the future of mobile phones
March 22nd, 2010 by LG Blog UK
What is Augmented Reality?
httpv://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ZKw_Mp5YkaE
In a bid to embrace augmented reality myself I downloaded the Layar Android app for my LG GW620 InTouch Max phone. In their own words:
“The idea is simple: Layar works by using a combination of the mobile phone’s camera, compass and GPS data to identify the user’s location and field of view, retrieve data based on those geographical coordinates, and overlay that data over the camera view.”
Thus, with a rumbling in my stomach and a glance at my watch I noted it was time for lunch, so I opened the food and drink option on Layar and...

LG GW620 Android phone
February 3rd, 2010 by LG Blog UK
Last week I wrote a brief introduction to the GW620 and promised to tell you more having spent the weekend testing it out. Never one to break a promise, here is my feedback having spent some time playing with just a fraction of the many apps available from the android market place.
If I were to pick a favourite app it would definitely be the ‘Family Guy Soundboard’. If my flatmate were to pick a least favourite app, it would undoubtedly be the ‘Family Guy Soundboard’. As a big Family Guy fan, getting catchphrases and soundbites from the show in the...

First impressions of the LG GW620 Android phone
January 29th, 2010 by LG Blog UK
Today I finally got my hands on an LG GW620 and was so busy playing with it I almost forgot to tell you about it!
My first impressions are positive. It looks good without being overly flashy subjecting you to unwanted attention from undesirables. It’s well designed ergonomically, fitting nicely in your hand, as well as having a bit of weight to it reminding you it is a serious piece of technology. The phone was simple to use, with logical navigational menus allowing first time users not to feel overwhelmed by the wealth of features. Admittedly it took me a little...

LG InTouch Max GW620 reviewed
January 29th, 2010 by LG Blog UK
Techradar.com have posted their review of LG’s first android phone, the InTouch Max GW620, awarding it 4 out of 5 stars!
The review states “LG has clearly thought about what users want from a phone like this”, listing the easy to use slide out QWERTY keyboard, high quality 5.0 mega-pixel camera, effective social networking overlay and it’s reasonable price as highlights.
Their main complaint with the phone is the use of the S-class UI (user interface) system, which the reviewer personally struggled with, but also conceded that it can be turned off according to preference.
The review concludes by describing the GW620 as...

The LG Blog’s Christmas Message
December 23rd, 2009 by LG Blog UK
Merry Christmas Everybody!
It's been a brilliant 2009 for LG and it seems an apt time to look back at some of the highlights from this year!
We started the year on a high, winning the CES Innovations Award for the LH9500 LCD HDTV.
In February, we welcomed Marc from Coolest Gadgets to be our man on the scene covering MWC in Barcelona. It was the official launch of the Arena KM900, our first phone to include LG’s 3D S-Class user interface (UI) and we got to see a live video call on the LG GD910 watch phone to none other than Microsoft’s...
