Regular readers will have an inkling that music is a big passion of mine. Any chance I get I talk about it – be it in reference to apps or simply some of the great new offerings from SXSW. How safe is your Android phone?
March 8th, 2011 by Dave@LGUK
We all know not to click a suspicious link when surfing the Internet – just as we know not to download anything that we don’t trust. But how many of us use this same logic when using our smartphones? How many of us stop and think that the application we are downloading to our android device is potentially damaging to both our handset and our privacy?
Well recent events mean that we need to be just as careful when using our phones as we are when using our computers. If you didn’t hear Google recently ousted a number of Android applications...

August 4th, 2010 by Dave@LGUK
Android have had a good couple of days from the sound of things. Firstly they announced that market research from the NDP group had them listed as the highest selling smartphone in the US for the first ever time, with a 33% share of the market. This marks the first time the Google running smartphone has outsold the iPhone, who had a 21% market share, and the Blackberry who dropped as market leader with a 28% share*.
Android’s share of the market looks destined to increase with their latest announcement today – the update to Facebook for Android. It was previously...

LG’s guide to Android
June 15th, 2010 by Dave@LGUK
Google’s Android operating system is quickly overtaking Apple’s share of the smartphone market – with Google activating 100,000 new Android phones everyday, compared with just 30,000 daily last year. Google state they are shipping 9 million Android phones every quarter compared to 8.75 million iPhones*, a truly meteoric rise for an operating system that was only launched in late 2008.
LG have released a booklet explaining all there is to know about Android to coincide with the release of their latest Android phone, the Optimus GT540. This talks you through simple things like the use of the Calendar and how to...

The future of Android
October 22nd, 2009 by Dave@LGUK
The future of streaming music from your Android handset just got a little closer.
Tech Crunch yesterday revealed plans for Google to launch a music service in the imminent future. Exciting news for all GW620 fans. This means that depending what service Google will be offering, it would make Google a Spotify competitor.
This news comes after it was revealed the Spotify service is to be included with an Android phone. This is an interesting move and hopefully it is only the beginning of phones offering high quality music streaming without having to compromise the quality of the handset.
Watch this space for...

Google gets it all mapped out
February 4th, 2009 by Dave@LGUK
Google is doing some very exciting stuff right now, including Google Ocean and Google Latitude.
The first being extensive 3D mapping of - can you guess? - the world's oceans, to make Google Earth more representative of the planet of a whole. The BBC have a gorgeous clip, which I won't embed here as last time I tried that it was determined to auto-load, so I'm afraid you'll have to be old school and click through to find out more.
Google Latitude is, according to Mashable, is a "very interesting application" for Mobile Mapping.
When it comes to privacy, Google seems to have...

Google Chrome launches via a comic
September 2nd, 2008 by Dave@LGUK
I've got to admit, I think Google have just raised the bar for product launches. Their new web browser, Google Chrome, isn't just interesting because it's yet another new entrant; it didn't seem long ago the world was destined to have one browser, but now Chrome enters a crowded marketplace, alongside Internet Explorer, Firefox, Safari, Opera and many more. Google think they can do better than what's out there right now, especially with the growth of web applications and the demands they have on the standard browser environment.
Chrome isn't out yet - and when it is it will be on...

Looking Lively
July 9th, 2008 by Dave@LGUK
There's been a lot of buzz today's over Google's latest venture, Lively, which is their new 3D Virtual World. Similar in outlook to Second Life, it looks a little more cartoony and maybe even aimed at a younger market, judging by the official trailer video shows:
TechDigest point out that it's not quite the same as Second Life though:
Rather than having a single persistent online space, Google intends Lively to be more of an addition to existing web space. User can enter a Lively space from a blog or website and then interact with fellow users, chat and prance about making...
