Introducing our new Plasmas for this autumn
Friday, 12 Sep 2008

Last night we launched our three new Plasma TVs at an exclusive bloggers event at Craven Cottage football ground - just like we did for LCDs a couple of weeks ago. A good crowd turned up, including Stephen from Gadgeteer and Phil, Sally & Lee from the AVForums. George Mead, LG UK’s marketing manager for TV, showed off our three new Plasmas for the second half of 2008 as well as discussing some of our plans with the future with the attendees:

You can check out more photos of the event here. Anyway, you’re probably dying to hear more about the three new plasmas, so without further ado:

  • The 32PG6000 is the world’s first production 32″ HD Plasma television with 100Hz and an built-in tuner. HD Ready with built-in Freeview, it’s perfect especially for homes who want to enjoy Plasma’s rich blacks and motion, but are restricted by small living rooms or alcoves that make fitting a larger screen awkward.
  • The PG6900 is a dual-tuner Freeview+ Plasma with built-in digital video recorder, with 160GB capacity (approx 86 hours recording time at standard quality). It comes in 42″ and 50″ versions.
  • The PG7000 is our top-of-the-line Plasma, in 50″ and 60″ versions. As well as superb quality picture and sound it also offers top quality connectivity, including both USB 2.0 and Bluetooth as well.

For more information check out the links for each of them, or download the product shots we have (14.6MB, ZIP) we have for some product shots. All three Plasmas will be out very shortly in the UK - no more than 3-4 weeks before you see it in the shops.

We’re proud of all three of these Plasmas, which as George pointed out, greatly expand our range of Plasma screens available on the market, and offer a lot more choice, each catering for different kinds of LG customer. The 32PG6000 especially will shake up the market we think - our research shows that rooms in the UK more likely to be small or an odd shape, making it ideal for people who have been unable until now to fit a Plasma in their house or flat. So here’s Ed from the product training team taking you through some of the features - enjoy:

LG LCD TVs: Video and more…
Monday, 8 Sep 2008

Last week we held our bloggers’ event for LCD Televisions in London, and we’re pleased to say we’ve got video up of the event. LG UK’s marketing manager for TV, George Mead, takes our bloggers through both LG’s history of flat panel TVs and the future, showcasing our three latest LCD televisions: the Slimline Scarlet (LG6100), LG7000 and LG4000. George also hosted a Q&A with the bloggers afterwards, which you can see below:

You can see the presentation in full by checking our YouTube channel - part 1, part 2 and part 3 are all now available online.

Check out some of coverage from the bloggers there - Andy of HDTVUK focused on the TVs’ environmental friendliness and easy-to-use user interface, for example. Matthew of Gadget Venueliked all three and especially the quality of the Mark Levinson-tuned audio, while Marc of Coolest Gadgets was most excited about the LG4000 with integrated DVD.

Finally, remember to check out our special LG-dedicated forum on AVForums, which we’ve just introduced - and feel free to join in if you like: the best comment in the first month of the forum’s operation (as judged by LG’s TV experts) will win the author a free LG TV! See you there….

Introducing the Slimline Scarlet and our autumn line of LCD TVs
Friday, 29 Aug 2008

Last night we unveiled three new LCD televisions which form part of our autumn lineup of flat panels, exclusively to bloggers at Fulham FC’s Craven Cottage stadium. LG’s head of TV marketing George Mead took our guests through three LCD televisions, with a little presentation followed by a discussion:

George Mead presenting our new LCD TVs

The three new TVs are:

  • The LG Slimline Scarlet (LG6100) is the successor to the LG Scarlet and is the world’s slimmest LCD TV with digital tuner integrated. Measuring just 45mm (1.7 inches) thick, it features a Full HD 1080p LCD screen with 100 MHz TruMotion, built in Digital Freeview, invisible speakers with Clear Voice and Intelligent Sensor brightness control.
  • The LG7000 is a HD Ready 1080p LCD TV, which comes in 32″, 37″, 42″, 47″ and 52″ sizes. It features an invisible speaker with Clear Voice technology, dual XD Engine, three special AV modes, Intelligent Sensor brightness control and inbuilt Bluetooth and USB connectivity.
  • The LG4000 is LG’s LCD TV with integrated DVD player. It features a 32″ HD Ready screen, invisible speakers with Clear Voice technology and customisable display options for you to get the most out of what you’re watching.
  • We had some great guests, including Matthew of Gadget Venue, Andy of HDTV UK and Marc of Coolest Gadgets, as well as Andrew Wong and Tom Phillips. After the presentation George took some questions and a discussion followed about about LG TVs, LCD v. Plasma and the future of televisions.

George & guest bloggers talking about TVs

The topics were quite interesting - environmental responsibility and power saving were important issues (especially in a climate of environmental change and rising energy prices) - with George underlying LG’s commitment to lowering power consumption; the Intelligent Sensor reduces consumption quite significantly already, and from next year onwards all LG TVs will have simple power-off rather than standby buttons to reduce consumption when offline. We also talked about LCD TVs and the differences between them and Plasmas - and how LCD is not the poorer relative of Plasma as commonly believed. We also touched on ease of use - why it is so important and how mobile phone UIs have influenced how LG TV interfaces are designed.

The Slimline Scarlet will be out imminently in the UK, while the LG7000 and 32LG4000 are out in September. If you’re a Slimline Scarlet owner or interested in getting one, be sure to check out the new product video and also the videos featuring Ed, one of our product trainers, talking you through how to set the TV up and how to get the best out of it. Here’s a taste of one of the videos - we’ll be posting more to our YouTube channel over the coming week.

LG bloggers at SMS Text News’s Unlimited Drinks
Wednesday, 11 Jun 2008

Last night Helen & I had the pleasure of attending “Unlimited Drinks London“, one of the foremost social events for mobile professionals in the UK, organised by the tirelessly enthusiastic Ewan of SMSTextNews. We met plenty of interesting people, from tech bloggers such as James Whatley and David Stone, to the guys from travel journal startup Mapness, and had chats about everything from the future of LG’s phones to whether Twitter or Jaiku was better. For those of you who missed it, there should be some photos and video of the event coming later today.

Those of you who we met there and are checking this blog out for the first time - hello, it was nice meeting you, and we hope you stay - do also check out us on Twitter, Flickr and YouTube. Finally, we also held a little prize draw for everyone who dropped their business card off at the event, and our congratulations go to Claire Jones and Stephen Wadeley who both won brand new LG KF600s to take home with them, and we hope they have a lot of fun with them!

Getting hands-on with the LG Secret
Monday, 28 Apr 2008

Last Friday we had the pleasure of some of the UK’s top tech and style bloggers at an exclusive event at London’s May Fair Hotel to have a look at the new LG Secret. A good crowd turned up, and as well as meeting us in the flesh, they got a chance to hear from Jeremy Newing, UK head of marketing for LG Mobile.

Jeremy first went through the phone’s features with a presentation, and then he fielded a really engaging Q&A with the audience, talking about the progress LG Mobile have made, LG’s plans for the future, including more open development for our phones, collaborating with users more, and designing phones with “Web 2.0″ in mind. After that our guests got a chance to try the phones hands-on.

I won’t go into to too much detail, as I think it’s best to read what the bloggers there thought instead, so why not check them out - from SMS Text News, Gaj-It and one part truth. There’ll be more to come (including video of the event) over the coming week, so keep an eye out for more…
