LG green technologies
February 17th, 2009 by Dave@LGUK
It's usually lost in the glitz of product launches but the environmental impact of manufacturing and running new products is something manufacturers are starting to become aware of. Here are a couple of photos from the LG booth showcasing their achievements in this area. Firstly BioPlastic, which takes significantly less resources to produce than conventional plastics and secondly a solar powered phone:

GD910 Watch phone
February 17th, 2009 by Dave@LGUK
I mentioned it in passing during the press conference notes but it really does deserve a post to itself. The GD910 watch phone is a 3G phone with full touchscreen interface and built in camera.
It also has stereo bluetooth for playing back MP3s and a text-to-speech function to read incoming text messages. And, of course, it keeps time!
Look for it on Orange networks later in the...

LG Press conference – wrap up
February 17th, 2009 by Dave@LGUK
Wrapping up the conference, the LG representatives answered questions from the floor. In the UK we're not too interested in (for example) the plans for European carriers so I won't repeat the whole session but there were definitely a couple of pertinent points:
Q: Will LG be producing an Android phone?
A: Yes, look out later this year
Q: Will LG have an "app store" where users can download additional content?
A: Yes, more information will follow in Q2
Q: The watch phone - price and availability?
A: Technologically ready to roll but discussions are still ongoing with carriers, so no price and availability information is...

Parrot by Starck
February 16th, 2009 by Dave@LGUK
They're known for bluetooth headsets but in a complete departure from that, Parrot are demonstrating these stylish speakers at the show.
Styled by acclaimed designer Philippe Starck, these speakers are bluetooth enabled to cut down on the wires. There's a subwoofer and 100 watt amplifier in each tower so all you need is a power point per speaker and you're away. You can stream music from your computer via wifi or bluetooth to the speakers and they also have an iPod cradle built in.
Photo from the stand below and more information here - You can expect to pay in the region...

LG Press event (part 2)
February 16th, 2009 by Dave@LGUK
Following on from the Arena, we saw details of a couple other new handsets also featuring the UI.
The GM730 and GD900 phones are quite different animals: The GM 730 is a Windows Mobile based smartphone with the 3D UI fitted on top of the standard windows mobile interface.
The GD900 on the other hand has a more stylish feel, with a transparent keypad that's guaranteed to get attention. More details on those two devices will be revealed later this...

LG Press event coverage (part 1)
February 16th, 2009 by Dave@LGUK
We've just spent the last hour in a very packed conference room being introduced to the latest LG products for this year and there's a fair bit to talk about so I'll split it up into a couple of posts.
To start with, it's now "Official" - the KM900 Arena is launched to the world as a high end multimedia enabled handset. But let's not get ahead of ourselves - the first item of the conference was something of a surprise: We saw a live video call on the LG watch phone to none other than Microsoft's Steve Ballmer.
Yes, I said...

Hi, and welcome from MWC. Marc from Coolest Gadgets here, covering the MWC for the LG Blog. It'll be a busy couple of days as we run around the show taking a look at what's new and interesting in the mobile world.
Obviously the main event for LG is the launch of the new Arena, which we'll have more details on after the press conference later this afternoon.
