Quarterly Results Reflect Record-High Flat Panel TV Shipments,
Strong Appliances Revenues and Profitable Mobile Business

LG Electronics Inc. (LG) today announced fourth quarter 2011 consolidated revenues of KRW 13.81 trillion (USD 12.05 billion) with an operating profit of KRW 23 billion (USD 20 million). Quarter-on-quarter revenue growth reflected strong performance in home entertainment and home appliances with improved operating profit in the mobile and TV businesses.

Unaudited consolidated financial results, based on IFRS (International Financial Reporting Standards) for the period ending Dec. 31, 2011, showed a net loss of KRW 112 billion (USD 97.73 million) in the quarter, primarily due to a loss on investments in affiliated companies and net financial expense.

Full-year 2011 consolidated revenues reached KRW 54.26 trillion (USD 48.97 billion). Despite a 2011 net loss of KRW 433 billion (USD 391 million), operating profits improved significantly to KRW 280 billion (USD 253 million) from KRW 176 billion (USD 153 million) for full-year 2010.

The LG Home Entertainment Company shipped a record high 8.8 million flat panel TVs from October to December, increasing revenues 17.6 percent from the previous quarter to KRW 6.31 trillion (USD 5.5 billion). While quarterly sales declined modestly from the 2010 period, a strong 2011 holiday season and more premium product mix led by CINEMA 3D TV resulted in an operating profit of KRW 150 billion (USD 130.9 million) in the fourth quarter of 2011. Full-year 2011 home entertainment sales were KRW 22.38 trillion (USD 20.2 billion) with operating profit of KRW 423 billion (USD 382 million). For 2012, LG will continue strengthening its position in 3D and Smart TVs with a broadened line of TVs with Cinema Screen design and quality content.

The LG Mobile Communications Company improved its position in the fourth quarter with operating profits of KRW 12 billion (USD 10 million) and sales of KRW 2.78 trillion (USD 2.42 billion) on the strength of premium smartphones such as Optimus LTE (Long Term Evolution). For full-year 2011, the company posted sales of KRW
11.69 trillion (USD 10.55 billion), a decline of 9.9 percent from 2010. For 2012, the company will continue to strengthen its position by focusing on strategic markets with expanded smartphone line-up led by LTE smartphones.

The LG Home Appliance Company posted record-high quarterly sales of KRW 2.99 trillion (USD 2.6 billion) in the fourth quarter of 2011 with strong growth in Korea, the U.S. and developing countries with more energy-efficient products. Modestly lower operating profit of KRW 65 billion (USD 57 million) in the fourth quarter reflected increased raw material costs and unfavorable foreign exchange rates. Total 2011 home appliance sales were KRW 11.11 trillion (USD 10.03 billion) with operating profit of KRW 295 billion (USD 266 million). New energy efficient appliances being introduced around the world this year are expected to contribute to 2012 revenue growth.

The LG Air Conditioning & Energy Solutions Company reported sales of KRW 680 billion (USD 593 million) in the fourth quarter, essentially flat with the 2010 fourth quarter. An operating loss of KRW 38 billion (USD 33 million) was attributed to negative macroeconomic issues and product mix weakness in developing markets. For full-year 2011, the company recorded air conditioning and energy solutions revenues of KRW 4.56 trillion (USD 4.11 billion) and operating profit of KRW 58 billion (USD 52 million). The company is increasing its focus on high-efficiency air conditioning systems to help drive sales in 2012.

LG Electronics (LG), today announces that its new TrueSteamTM Dishwasher (D1454BF) has been awarded the ‘Waterwise Recommended Checkmark’. Using as little as 9 litres of water for a fully loaded dishwasher cycle – typically the same load would use up to 60 litres if washed by hand.

Waterwise is an independent, not for profit organisation focused on decreasing water consumption in the UK and building the evidence base for large scale water efficiency; as such are the leading authority on water efficiency in the UK. The Waterwise Recommended Checkmark is a progression from the previous Waterwise award, ‘the Marque’, over 70 Marques were awarded previously, across a broad spectrum of products from dishwashers to showerheads, from water storing gels for the garden to toilets.

Jacob Tompkins, Waterwise Managing Director says “Amazingly the UK has less available water per person than many Mediterranean countries and lots of the country is currently suffering drought. Smart technology and innovation can help us all save water in our homes and Waterwise is delighted that LGs new dishwasher has been awarded the Waterwise Recommended Checkmark. The clever use of steam means it can wash 14 place settings worth of dishes with less than a washing up bowl of water, it’s a great combination of performance and water saving – that’s what water efficiency is all about”

Dishwashers are still seen as a non-essential appliance, still well under 50% penetration here in the UK, however recommendations from Energy & Water conservation bodies all help to emphasise that the investment of a dishwasher can indeed pay off in energy and utility bills and in turn help in the conservation of valuable resources.

Dawn Stockell, LG Marketing Communications Manager adds: “After introducing our TrueSteamTM dishwasher range back in October, we are delighted that it has been recommended by Waterwise, highlighting its excellent water efficiency in a time when utility costs are on the increase.”

With the festive season fast approaching, our latest survey[1] reveals that washing the dishes after Christmas dinner tops the festive woes Brits face this December. Over one in three Brits (38%) agree that washing the dishes after Christmas dinner the biggest stress beating classics such as battling the crowds and shopping for presents (30%), cooking the actual dinner (12%) and enduring marathon sessions of cheesy Christmas films (7%).

The survey also found that nearly half (43%) find they do more washing up over the holiday season than during any other time on the year. This Christmas, the nation will collectively spend 25,491,600[2] hours scraping away greasy turkey fat and sticky cranberry sauce. It is not surprising that one in five (20%) see a dishwasher as the most valued asset over Christmas with 21% agreeing that spending time over the sink takes valuable time away from loved ones.

But the question is…. Who does the dishes these days? With the Christmas dinner aftermath, who gets lumbered with the washing up? Is washing up still woman’s work or perhaps since upgrading to a dishwasher, it’s the man who is fanatical about loading the machine??

Sales of LG Electronics’ 6 Motion washing machines have exceeded more than two million units worldwide since its debut in later 2009. First introduced in October 2009, LG’s 6 Motion Direct Drive™ washing machines have recorded 2.25 million units in sales, which includes 1.25 million units of its front-loading washing machines as well as one million top-loading units.

Enabled by LG’s Inverter Direct Drive™ technology, the 6 Motion washing machine has won rave reviews. Its unique feature allows for more precise spin speed control and inner drum movements saves energy, time and gets clothes cleaner. With a range of cycles optimized for different types of fabrics and delivering a wash that is as gentle as it is thorough, LG’s 6 Motion technology goes beyond mere “laundry”.

“LG washing machines have gained a reputation as the most innovative appliances in the market today,” said Young-ha Lee, President and CEO of LG Electronics Home Appliance Company. “6 Motion was a breakthrough when we unveiled it in 2009 and continues to lead the industry two years later.”

Due in large part to the popularity of LG’s 6 Motion washing machines, the company posted the best sales figures – in volume and value – for washing machines in 2010, according to figures provided by various market research companies . In addition, LG’s front-loading washing machines have been the best-selling front loaders in the world for the past two years and the top sellers in the United States for the last four.

What is “6 Motion”?

6 Motion is made possible thanks to LG’s Inverter Direct Drive motor which enables better control of the drum – from both a speed and rotation point of view, thus enabling different wash motions.
The different wash motions are specific to how the drum moves and its effect on the clothes and although different motions may be more suited to different fabrics, LG’s engineers have found the optimum combination of wash motions to deliver the best performance and care for your laundry based upon the programme selected.

The President of LG Electronics’ (LG) Home Appliance Company announced at IFA its goal to become the top washing machine and refrigerator brand in Europe by 2015. Speaking at Messe Berlin, Young-ha Lee, CEO of LG Electronics Home Appliance Company, said LG intends to capture 13 percent market share (sales amount based) in washing machines and 12.5 percent in refrigerators (sales amount based, excluding built-in refrigerators) in the region in four years.

“The European market is highly competitive due to established local players in the home appliance industry,” Mr. Lee said. “But LG is absolutely committed to being a brand that is embraced by European customers. We’re already ramping up our investment in the region and have products on the drawing board that are based entirely on consumer insights from European audiences.”

SOLIDIFY A PREMIUM IMAGE THROUGH SMART PRODUCTS
A key part of LG’s strategy is to solidify the company’s image as a premium brand through its smart home appliance products. LG’s strengths are in energy savings and user convenience. These benefits are made possible by LG’s smart solutions the company calls Smart ThinQ™, which includes Smart Manager, Smart Diagnosis™, Smart Access, Smart Adapt and Smart Grid.

LG Smart Appliances

Smart Manager manages an inventory of food stored in the refrigerator. LG’s Smart Di-agnosis™ feature helps customer service representatives to quickly and efficiently trou-bleshoot mechanical issues. Smart Access permits consumers to remotely control home appliances using mobile devices such as smartphones. Smart Adapt recommends cooking instructions and wash cycles tailored to the consumers’ needs. And Smart Grid enables consumers to save energy costs by automatically reducing energy consumption during peak hours, without any input from the homeowner.

LG will launch its smart home appliance products in Europe beginning with smart re-frigerators in the United Kingdom (UK) at the end of this year. This will be followed by smart washing machines, smart ovens and smart robotic vacuum cleaners. LG’s smart clothing storage unit, Styler, will also make its appearance in European retailers.

EUROPEAN FOCUS, EUROPEAN STRATEGY
LG also plans to increase its market share in the European built-in appliances market by cooperating at a deeper level with distribution partners and by introducing a lineup of more localised products in key European markets such as France, Spain, Italy and Germany.

As part of this aggressive strategy, LG is ramping up its European manufacturing operations. LG’s plant in Wroclaw, Poland is expected to more than triple its production of refrigerators, expanding from the current 300,000 units annually to one million units. Its new washing machine assembly line in Poland is also targeting one million units a year. LG is looking into investing an additional USD 34 million by 2015 to further expand its European manufacturing facilities.

“These efforts are intended to meet European market demands sooner rather than later,” said LG’s Mr. Lee. “An increasing proportion of products supplying the European market will originate from European facilities instead of Korea and China.”

LG’s Refrigeration Report reveals that the majority of UK households waste at least 10% of the food they buy
UK Households throw away over £5 billion worth of food every year is a post from: LG Blog

Despite families trying to cut costs and tighten purse strings, LG Electronics has found that over half of UK households waste at least 10% of all the food they buy and a fifth waste over a 25%.

Food wastage has been a topical issue in the UK in recent years as consumers become ever more conscious of the environment and with the economic situation meaning that shoppers are tightening their belts and looking for new ways to save money. In fact, over two thirds of people (71%) say that they do think about the food they may waste when doing the weekly shop and try to reduce this by buying only what is needed.

Nevertheless, with stats from LG’s latest Refrigeration Report showing that £5 billion worth of food is wasted each year, it seems that people aren’t sure how to store their food to keep it fresh or what to do with leftovers.

People in Northern Ireland are the worst offenders, with a third saying that they waste more than a quarter of all food bought. While Wales wastes less food than any other region, with one in ten wasting more than a quarter of all food bought.*

<img src="http://www.lgblog.co.uk/wp-content/uploads/2011/08/Simon-Rimmer-200x300.jpg" alt="" title="Simon Rimmer" width="200" height="300" class="align="left" size-medium wp-image-8600" />Celebrity chef, Simon Rimmer, comments: “Food wastage is a huge issue in the UK but it’s really very simple to avoid. Knowing things like where you place your food in the fridge, the cool levels within the fridge and which foods should be refrigerated can really make a difference. There are plenty of new technologies, especially in refrigeration, that can really help to combat any wastage problems.”

LG Home Appliance Marketing Communications Manager, Dawn Stockell adds: “In 2011, LG’s Refrigeration range includes products with leading technologies which prolong food freshness and minimise wastage. Features like our Moist Balance Crisper maintain the moisture balance in one section of the fridge to ensure that fruit and vegetables don’t go soggy and stay fresh. Our refrigerators also have Fresh O Zone areas which maintain an area of the fridge at zero degrees, meaning meat and fish will be kept at a prime temperature ready for cooking.”

*Food Wastage in the UK by Region:

	REGION
1	Northern Ireland (30.75%)
2	West Midlands (26.06%)
3	London (22.47%)
4	East Midlands (21.43%)
5	North West (21.08%)
6	East Anglia (20.4%)
7	Scotland (20.01%)
8	South East (18%)
9	Yorkshire and Humber (15.85%)
10	South West (12.5%)
11	North East (12.36%)
12	Wales (11.63%)

(Regions ranked with 1 being the most and 12 being the least wasteful. Figures show percentage of people who waste more than a quarter of all food bought)

The 24th to the 26th of May saw the Connected Home Global Summit 2011 taking place in London, with a number of industry specialists on hand to offer their insight into the development of the connected home.

We may be some way from the ultimate consumer dream of a connected home, but the overall conclusions drawn from the speakers was positive, with Google’s Industry Head Kevin Mathers saying that the rate of change means we may not be as far from the dream as first thought.

It was almost unanimously agreed that the devices that will dominate the connected home for the foreseeable future are smartphones and tablets, whilst the importance of PCs and laptops decrease. However, better Wi-Fi solutions are required before tablets and smartphones can claim dominance in the home. With this in mind, it is no surprise to see that the award for Best Contribution to Interconnectivity Standards went to Wi-Fi Alliance® for their commitment to ensuring companies make their Wi-Fi devices compatible with one another. This is something we at LG are conscious of, having joined the Wi-Fi Alliance® group recently as well as having representatives on the board.

Looking at LG’s role in the future of the connected home, we have brought out our first wave of Smart refrigerators. Powered by our own smart technology called THINQ™, the refrigerator can be accessed via smartphone or tablet for updates or information. These currently include some power saving solutions like late night saving, preferable time saving and Smart-grid ready. Though it is with the Smart Manager that our fridges really show off. Out shopping and can’t remember if you need milk? What about the carrots in the salad drawer? Will they last until the weekend? Well with Smart Manager you can access this from your smartphone or tablet as and when you choose, be it from your desk or from the supermarket.

Our range of Smart refrigerators is out now in Korea and will hit the market in selected countries in the second half of 2011.

Because we know there is never enough time in the day, LG have announced a new steam dishwasher with Truesteam™technology that delivers a powerful cleaning performance, without the need for prewashing. The dishwasher’s SmartRack™ has easily adjustable tines that can accommodate a wide range of odd-sized dishes and utensils, providing a more convenient wash, while the Direct Drive™ motor ensures top-grade performance while cutting down on both water and energy usage.

TrueSteam™ Keeps Hands Dry and Soft and Makes Dishes Spotlessly Clean

TrueSteam™ works by creating high-temperature steam particles that are injected from carefully positioned pressure nozzles. Once the particles attach themselves to the grease and grime on the dishes, temperatures quickly rise to melting point, so by the time the entire cycle is finished, the dishes are spotless.

Steam temperature and pressure are managed by the built-in steam generator, and the resulting particles are powerful enough to tackle the toughest, burnt on, dried up food remains.

Consumers also have the option of the Steam Care cycle for more delicate dishes without leaving so much as a scratch.

Efficiency Without Sacrificing Performance through LG’s Inverter Direct Drive

The dishwasher’s ultra-efficient motor is thanks to LG’s Inverter Direct Drive technology. By using power more intelligently, LG’s Inverter Direct Drive dishwashers uses 42 percent less water than conventional washers, resulting in an A++ grade for energy use. While conventional dishwasher spends energy consumption of 1.08kWh and water usage of 14 litres, LG’s new dishwasher needs much less energy and water down to 0.92kWh and 9 litres.

Also LG provides a 10 year warranty on Inverter Direct Drive Motor installed dish washers.

More Convenient, Flexible and Functional

LG’s unique SmartRack™ system allows for various internal layout configurations, including a complete fold-down of all racks. This design feature allows the interior of the dishwasher to be more flexible to fit in any odd sized pots and pans.

LG’s unique height adjustable third rack adds flexibility by making room to fit even larger items such as spatulas, whisks or wooden spoons.

SMART DIAGNOSIS™

One of my personal favourite of

LG’s innovations, SMART DIAGNOSIS™ technology has also been incorporated into this dishwasher. This technology works by sending relevant troubleshooting data to the service center over the phone via unique tone signals. The received data then allows the technician to determine whether the issue can be resolved remotely or whether a visit is required, making the repair process quicker and easier for all involved.

At the beginning of March Madrid was likely the coolest place in Europe, as Climatizacion, Europe’s premier air-conditioning exhibition, came to town.

LG were there and exhibited some of their key products, including the enhanced commercial air conditioning systems such as the Multi V III, and the newly released Therma V and Air Handling Unit. The H-Inverter and Compressor found on the Multi V III greatly improve efficiency, reducing energy consumption by up to 11% compared with previous models.

The Therma V is an air to water heat pump that uses technology that won an Innovation Award at the AHR Expo in Las Vegas back in January. A key product for LG at Madrid, the Therma V is four times more efficient than conventional heating units – benefitting both customers and the environment!

With the establishment of a full line-up of air conditioning units, LG are planning to evolve into a total solution provider for the European market. With Heavy investment LG are building up their R&D capabilities, including opening a custom-built R&D center in Northern France to help customize products to the needs of the European Market. The LG EnergyLab also aims to further heighten the reliability of LG’s products, as well as implementing its “3 2 1 Project”, under which the company promises to visit customers within three hours of a call out, complete any repairs within two days, and provide all necessary parts within one day.

Beyond their role as a leader in air conditioning, LG are also moving more and more into the business solutions including LED lighting and solar power. With a planned investment of $500 million US Dollars into workforce and R&D, LG are aiming toward a $10 billion US Dollars target in global sales by 2013!

Regular readers of the blog will know that early January belongs to the Consumer Electronics Show – the most important three days annually on any techies calendar. Taking place annually in Las Vegas, CES is the place where the world’s tech titans come together to impress the crowds and dictate the course of technology over the next year. Naturally LG were present and by all accounts it was a good year, with plenty of positive media buzz matched with an impressive haul of CES innovation awards.

Best of Innovations Awards: NANO Full LED 3D Smart TV (LW9500)

In the first of several awards for the Home Entertainment team, LG’s top-of-the-range LW9500 NANO Full LED Active 3DTV scooped a prestigious “Best of Innovations Award”. Packing LG’s unique NANO technology provides an extra bright sheen to its FULL LED backlighting, whilst the LW9500’s ultra-narrow bezel makes it a stylish accompaniment to any room. The LW9500 also won plaudits for its quick and easy access to online content.

Innovations Awards: Smart TV Platform (LW9500)

2011 was the year that Smart TV really made its presence felt at CES and LG won another Innovation Award in the online and video content section for it’s Smart TV platform on the LW9500. LG’s offering stood out thanks to a simple, intuitive interface that makes its high technology easy for anyone to use. LG’s Smart TV also benefits from a fast-growing range of apps that cover everything from lifestyle and education to entertainment and games. Additionally the Smart Share function lets users wirelessly stream content from compatible devices direct to the television screen, while also serving up meta data, such as synopses and actor profiles for the content you are watching.

Innovations Awards: NANO FULL LED 3D Smart TV (LW7700)

Packing NANO Technology, the LW7700’s high-definition, cinema standard picture has received THX certification, the gold standard for cinema-quality TV. The LW770 also boasts all the benefits and functions of LG’s Smart TV technology.

Innovations Awards: 3D PDP TV (PW350)

With an ultra-narrow bezel maximizing the screen display and an elegant frame and stand, the PW350 is a truly visually arresting TV.

Once the TV is turned on, the PW350 shows its real power, with 3D images staying smooth even during the fastest action sequences. Combine this with LG’s patented 3D XD Engine and you have a 3D picture of startling brightness and clarity.

Innovations Awards: Portable Media Player (BP650)

At just 1.6 inches in width, the BP650 is the ultimate in portable performance. Playing Blu-ray™ in beautiful HD on a 9-inch screen is not its only trick, as users can also enjoy online content through a wired network, adding even more tools and applications to the BP560’s impressive repertoire.

Innovations Awards: Home Theater System (HX996TS)

A CES Innovation Honoree for excellence in the category of Integrated Home Systems, the HX996TS uses innovative new sound excellence to take sound into the third dimension. Optimized to offer 3D sound for 3D movies, this 3D Sound Home Theater uses dual subwoofers and special tallboy speakers that completely fill the space above viewers’ heads, creating the illusion they are right in the thick of the movie.

Innovations Awards: Monitor (E2290V), Optical Disc Drive (BP40LS20)

In computer accessories, the LG E2290V, an ultra-slim monitor, and the LG BP40LS20, an external Blu-ray Disc™ drive, also earned Honorees of the Innovations Awards.

With a 10 million to 1 contrast ratio, the E2290V, offers crystal clear images and a lightning fast 2ms response time that keeps images smooth, even during the fastest games or movies. It is also packed with eco-friendly features including lower energy consumption – as much as 40 percent less than with conventional CCFL-backlit LCD monitors.

The LG BP40LS20 is the first optical disc drive with BDXL, offering new standards in Blu-ray™ technology.

Innovations Awards: Home Appliances

Rounding off an impressive Honoree list from LG is a trio of the company’s outstanding steam washers.

The WM3885HCCA is a highly-efficient front load Steamwasher™ based on LG’s Inverter Direct Drive technology, complete with major improvements in capacity, energy, efficiency and durability. This all results in a clean as thorough and delicate as if it had been washed by hand. As both an energy and cost saving advantage the WM3885HCA’s Coldwash™ technology uses cold water to penetrate into fabrics, which when combined with the 6 Motion technology, results in the same washing performance as washing in warm water.

Key to LG’s success within the Home Appliance category is the combination of LG’s Inverter Drive and 6 Motion technologies, the latter of which lets the drum tailor each cycle to clothes’ precise needs, using a mixture of rolling, stepping, swinging, scrubbing, filtration and tumbling. These technologies are both found on LG’s high efficiency top-load laundry pair, the WT5101HV and DLEX5101V and ensures an extremely gentle wash for delicates or a more powerful cleanse for soiled items.

Using Truesteam™ and Inverter Drive™ technologies, LG’s new Steam Dishwasher (LDF9942ST) delivers excellent, simple cleaning while consuming less energy and water. LG’s Truesteam™ Generator, the only built-in steam generator of any dishwasher, creates high-intensity steam that dissolves even the toughest residue. A highly water efficient function in itself, the Truesteam™ Generator also does away with the need to manually pre-rinse dishes, thereby helping save water. What’s more, the Inverter Drive™ motor makes the LG dishwasher one of the most energy-efficient, high-performance lines in the industry.

And that’s it for another year, the techies moved on and Las Vegas was soon back to its normal, ebullient ways.

In a year when ‘smartness’ and integration were crucial, LG played a key role in shaping that picture with innovations that embraced some of the most impressive elements yet seen in smart consumer technology. The show may be over, but the buzz around LG for another year has only just begun.

With CES over for another year it is time to stop, catch our breath and have a look at all the technology and innovation that was unveiled in another successful year at CES. LG took home awards in 9 categories including a much-coveted “Best of Innovations” award for its 3D ready, Internet-connected 55-inch full LED LW9500 HDTV.

Smart Upgrader ST600

‘Smart’ was introduced as one of the key themes for LG at this year’s show, with Smart phones, Smart Home Appliances and Smart TV on display. Whilst this was undoubtedly a theme shared by a lot of manufacturers exhibiting, LG caught a lot of eyes with their ST600 Smart upgrader. Essentially the ST600 is a peripheral box that is plugged into any television with a HDMI port and gives access to LG’s Smart TV content, including access to thousands of movies, customisable apps, videos and the ability to browse the Web through an easy to navigate interface. Indications for the UK point toward Smart TV allowing access to BBC i-Player, Acetrax, Viewster, Google Maps, Twitter, Facebook, Accuweather and Picasa amongst numerous others*.

The ST600 Smart Upgrader was also listed by Esquire Magazine as one of their ‘Best of CES 2011’ products.

Optimus Black

One of LG’s most talked about products unveiled was the LG Optimus Black handset. Part of LG’s Optimus smart phone family, the Optimus Black is a stylish and super slim smart phone running Android 2.2, but with a promise to receive 2.3 before long.

One of the big talking points surrounding the Optimus Black is the screen, more specifically the brightness of the screen. Using LG’s proprietary NOVA technology the Optimus Black promises the brightest screen ever kicking out 700nits of luminosity, whilst also promising a 50% reduction on power consumption when used indoors in comparison to a standard LCD display.

Smart Grid

Sticking with the Smart theme, Home Appliances were also given the Smart makeover this year, with plenty of new technology on display. But it was the LG Smart Grid that had us salivating at the prospect of controlling our home appliances remotely using a smartphone or a tablet. Undoubtedly one for the future, but amazing nonetheless, Smart Grid links your appliances including dishwasher, washer & dryer, refrigerator, oven and even a HOM-BOT robotic vacuum cleaner. The Smart Grid will then let the appliances work together for economical and practical reasons. For example, using Smart Grid LG washing machines can program washing machines to do the washing at the most cost effective time, utilising the “Recommend Time” and “Lowest Rate” options. In a similar way LG’s refrigerators can adjust their functions to save on energy bills at peak times, or ramp up cooling power when energy rates are low.

The World’s Largest Full LED 3D TV

Named by T3 magazine as one of the ‘Best 3D Gadgets of CES 2011’ the LZ9700 is the biggest Full LED 3D TV in the world today measuring in at a living-room remodeling 72inches.

Aside from the obvious jaw-dropping effect of its size, the LZ9700 is packed full of features including 400Hz, Smart TV and a Magic Motion Remote Control as standard.

Super Slim LED Monitor E2290V

The CES Innovations Award-Winning E2290V monitor is sure to be the must-have monitor for the year to come. Measuring in at an unbeatably slim 7.2mm in depth, the E2290V not only offers a great picture due to its LED lighting and 10,000,000:1 contrast ratio, but also a stylish design.

With a response time of just 2 milliseconds and Full HD 1080p, the picture on the E2290V will remain clear and bright even during the fastest action sequences making it ideal for watching Blu-ray movies or gaming.

* Content partners may vary by product category.

Thanks to LG’s proprietary built-in TrueSteam™ generator, the Steam Power cycle creates powerful steam that can dissolve the toughest residue, leaving dishes spotless without the need for pre-washing by hand.
The dishwasher is also highly energy efficient due to LG’s Inverter Direct Drive™ motor, cutting energy use by up to 71% compared to standard Energy Star-certified dishwashers. It also makes washing and draining quieter than ever, with noise levels of 42 decibels, some of the quietest in its category. The Inverter Direct Drive™ comes with a 10-year warranty.

CES may be over for this year, but our coverage continues as LG had a lot of great technology on display!

At the LG Press Conference on the opening day LG’s Chief Technical Officer Skott Ahn stated that 2011 was all about Smart Products, and with the 2011 Home Appliance range unveiled it is clear to see that these products are no exception.

The core of the line-up this year are LG’s innovative smart features, including Smart grid, Smart Diagnosis™, Smart Access, Smart Adapt and Food Management, which can be found in our range of refrigerators, washing machines, ovens and robotic cleaners via a smart network. In addition to our current signature technologies, these innovations will help consumers make savings in energy, time and expense.

LG THINQ™ – Smarter Solutions for a More Empowered and Convenient Life

Using Smart Grid LG washing machines can program washing machines to do the washing at the most cost effective time, utilising the “Recommend Time” and “Lowest Rate” options. LG’s new range of ovens can also tap into the Smart Grid to offer varying cost options that take into account the duration and electrical cost of the cooking. In a similar way LG’s refrigerators can adjust their functions to save on energy bills at peak times, or ramp up cooling power when energy rates are low.

LG Smart Diagnosis™ notices when anything goes wrong on a home appliance and informs users of this, currently via the display panel, but in future via smartphone or tablet PC via a Wi-Fi connection. Smart Diagnosis will also allow service technicians to know exactly what to fix and when, making the repair process quicker and easier saving both time and money.

With the monitoring and control functions of LG Smart Access consumers can oversee their household chores regardless of their location. Using smart phones or tablet PCs, they can see how much longer their food has to cook, check temperatures and contents of the refrigerator remotely. Consumers can even remotely start their robotic vacuum cleaners to clean up or watch over the house while they are out.

LG Smart Adapt capitalizes on the Wi-fi technology inbuilt in the smart products, allowing you to download the latest options for your products including pre-programmed recipes or washing cycles that best fit your needs and lifestyle. With additional drag and drop icons and voice recognition function, LG Food Management makes it easy to keep track of where everything is in the refrigerator and when it all expires.

LG’s Washing Machines Offer the “Best of the Best” Washing Performance

Made possible by the Inverter Direct Drive™motor, LG have now introduced 6Motion™ Technology that uses six different washing motions to provide outstanding performance and gentle cleaning. Coldwash™ delivers a low energy wash as good as with warm water, while LG TrueSteam™ offers a deeper, more penetrating wash. LG also offer a 10-year warranty on its Direct Drive motor.

LG Fridges Provide the Freshest, Most Convenient Storage Space

LG have long been a leader in innovation in French-door refrigeration, and the new products unveiled at CES 2011 are no exception. Slim SpacePlus™ Ice System makes way for more door space, allowing for the most refrigerator shelf space in the industry, while the new Converta™ Drawer allows for the top freezer drawer to be converted into an extra refrigerator shelf when needed.

LG’s Cooking Appliances Produce the Best Cooking Results

Using LG’s double oven with its unique InfraGrill™ Technology, consumers can cook faster with lower energy costs. The double oven has a 6-inch tall upper oven, offering an ergonomic flexibility when baking and cooking, and its 6.7 cubic foot capacity allows bigger dishes to be cooked with out fear of running out of space.

LG Vacuum Cleaners Make Cleaning Effortless and Efficient

Lg’s upright vacuum cleaner has LG’s Kompressor® technology and a larger bin size, compressing dirt meaning less emptying. DualForce+™ suction captures more dirt across a wider area, and the Clink ‘N Go Wand™ provides an impressive 15 extra feet of reach.

In addition LG’s new HOM-BOT robotic vacuum offers a unique combination of dual cameras (upper and lower), ultrasonic and infrared sensors to allow it to find its way into every part of consumers’ floors. It also boasts a super slim height of just over 3.5-inches.

LG’s Steam Dishwasher Delivers the Best Dishwashing Results

Lg’s dishwashers reduce energy via the built in TrueSteam™ generator, which also creates a powerful, soil-destroying steam for outstanding wash results. The Direct Drive Motor also comes with a ten-year guarantee.

LG’s Studio Series Makes the Kitchen Smarter

LG’s Studio Series delivers a complete, smart solution using the company’s unique core technologies – Inverter Direct Drive, Linear Compressor and InfraGrill Technology. Furthermore LG’s Studio Series brings together ovens, microwave ovens, refrigerators and dishwashers in a well-designed premium kitchen package.

There is only one place to find out all the latest technology trends and innovations for the year to come and that is at the Consumer Electronics Show (CES) held every January in Las Vegas.

Not all of us were lucky enough to find our way to Vegas for this year’s CES, but that doesn’t mean we don’t have the inside word on all of LG’s exciting products for the year to come. Our YouTube channel is host to a number of videos that introduce many of the great products on display.

The best place to start would be with this introductory video for CES 2011.

Skott Ahn, President and Chief Technology Officer of LG, sets the theme of this year’s products by saying, “For LG, 2011 is all about smart products. We have Smart TVs, Smart mobiles and Smart appliances”.
With sound bytes from George Mead, Marketing Manager, Home Entertainment LG UK and Paul Trueman, Marketing Director, LG UK, the video offers a great introduction to why 2011 is going to be Smart for LG.

The Smarter Planet Blog recently teamed up with IBM, interviewing 3 members of the IBM team to ask them to talk about the Internet Of Things and what a smarter planet meant to them. The results are an interesting insight into the possibilities of a new level of digital integration into our lives for the future in the form of an animated video highlighting these possibilities.

We live in a constantly evolving global data field, made up of many factors including the planet itself, human systems and physical objects. Everything around us creates data, but we never used to be able to see or hear it. Now we can, as everything has become instrumented with the development of technology that can measure this data. Essentially the world we live in has grown a central nervous system that we can harness through technology.

Devices can now communicate with each other, sharing information from things like temperature sensors, traffic sensors and water flow rates being just a few of an almost unending list of examples.

As an example of how this can benefit us, consider this example from Andy Stanford-Clark used in the video:

“I wake up in the morning and my alarm clock went off at the right time because it had looked in my diary to know when my first meeting was and had backtracked which ferry I needed to get and therefore what time I needed to get up.

The bathroom heater would have been on for half an hour before that time to make the bathroom nice and warm. It’d know that the temperature had been freezing over night and therefore that ice was going to need to be scraped off my car so I’d need to leave the house five minutes earlier.

And then I’d be getting an audio notification when in my car on the way to my ferry telling me the ferry was running five minutes late and therefore not to hurry”.

On a more immediate note this could also mean that your home appliances could talk to each other. For example if your washing machine, cooker and boiler all knew that they were needed at the same time but also were aware this was bad for the grid, they could prioritise and negotiate a solution.

This sort of digital integration within your life certainly seems like it could make life easier, and those seemingly unavoidable annoyances through the day could become easily avoidable.

With its unique combination of camera, and ultrasonic and infrared sensors, the robotic cleaner finds its way into every nook and cranny, making cleaning a truly effortless job. The Hom-Bot enhances the quality of consumers’ lives by quietly doing the work, and giving consumers more free time to enjoy the important things in life – such as family and friends.

“We feel this is a product that really taps into current trends and is a much anticipated ad-dition to the home appliance portfolio in the UK.” said Kate Seabrook, UK Consumer Marketing Manager of LG Electronics Home Appliance Company. “Consumers find it more and more difficult to fit everything in these days with the typical 21st Century life-style of juggling a career with a family. We hope this new robotic cleaner will help those busy professionals find some more time to themselves.”

Making cleaning effortless and efficient, the Hom-Bot’s smart features mean that users need hardly move, while the vacuum cleaner does all the hard work of cleaning the floors. This nifty device is dynamic, space-aware and can move around in all directions to ensure the whole floor gets a good clean. When it makes its way around a room, manoeuvring around a single obstacle – such as a chair – requires significant adjustment to its move-ments. To handle these kinds of demands, the Hom-Bot, LG’s most state-of-the-art robotic cleaner yet, boasts exceptional intelligence and sensory systems.

Using its unique dual-camera sensors, LG Hom-Bot navigates around the area to be cleaned by constantly re-calculating the best path it should take to clean the full area – these calculations occur many times per second. Since Hom-Bot remembers where it has been, it cleans faster and more efficiently than other robotic cleaners on the market. Better yet, thanks to its low noise levels (60dB(A)), consumers can enjoy Hom-Bot’s cleaning without distraction.

At this year’s IFA, taking place in Berlin from the 3rd to the 8th of September, LG will unveil some outstanding core technologies – Inverter Direct Drive, Linear Compressor, Lightwave Technology and COMPRESSOR Technology. These technologies are incorporated into a new range of products that are being introduced to the European market for the first time to allow consumers to upgrade their lifestyle to one that is greener, healthier and more convenient.

As the centerpiece of LG’s stand in Hall 1.1, the Core Tech zone will offer interactive demonstrations of LG’s core technologies and the benefits they offer consumers. The zone will also lead into individual zones demonstrating each flagship product equipped with the core-technologies. These include:

Refrigerators

LG’s newest range of refrigerators reveal the outstanding benefits of their Linear Compressor technology.

At the top of the range is the brand new bottom-freezer. This appliance has a massive 385 litre capacity storage area making it the largest in its class. The Linear Compressor technology keeps the interior temperature stays extremely steady – keeping your food as fresh as possible – while using 28% less energy than a regular A+ rated fridge.

LG’s new refrigerators also keep fruit and vegetables fresher longer thanks to the Fresh O Zone which has been officially endorsed by SLG-Pruf-und Zertifizierungs GmbH, a leading German test laboratory. Combine this with the large storage capacity and a 10-year warranty on the Linear Compressor in the bottom freezer and you have a stylish and functional refrigerator destined to long be a feature in your kitchen.

Washing Machines

LG’s newest washing machine comes with the company’s groundbreaking, new generation Inverter Drive Technology and its outstanding 6 Motion technology.

Thanks to the Inverter Direct Drive, most new LG washing machines come with an impressive 11kg capacity in a 24-inch cabinet. Furthermore the technology also delivers the twin benefits of cutting noise levels to just 54dB, and reducing energy by up to 30% compared with other machines in the class. LG are so confident in the design and build of the Inverter Direct Drive technology that it also comes with a 10-year warranty.

The Inverter Direct Drive technology also enables the machine’s unique 6 Motion – with a controlled spin speed, precise movement of the inner drum left and right movement which provides a range of cycles optimised for different types of fabrics. The 6 Motion also reduces washing powder residue on clothes in comparison with regular models. What’s more, the 6 Motion helps clothes soak in highly concentrated powders more evenly, making the machine very effective at protecting against shrinkage of wooly-textured garments.

Cooking Appliances

By showing off its new generation of Lightwave technology appliances at IFA 2010 LG will be demonstrating how its convenient cooking appliances can deliver chef-quality food with a more natural taste in your own home.

This year, LG is unveiling its Solar Combi, the world’s first oven to be fitted with a Charcoal Heater and T-stabilizer. By using charcoal as its heat source, the new oven enables consumers to cook food that is more natural, and brings healthier, tastier dishes to the table.

The oven’s Charcoal Heater helps maintain a natural flow of heat that penetrates deep into foods while also keeping them moist. This helps make grilled dishes as delicious as anything created in a restaurant. Meanwhile, the Naturalflow Convention and T-stabilizer let consumers cook gourmet food more easily by adjusting the optimal temperature and maintaining more even cooking. Just as important, the Solar Combi cuts energy bills by up to 30 percent compared with conventional ovens, while also saving on cooking time.

Vacuum Cleaners

Also on show at IFA will be LG’s newest vacuum cleaners fitted with the company’s revolutionary COMPRESSOR technology. By enabling thorough and effortless cleaning, Compressor technology ensures consumers’ homes will be hygienic as well as clean.

Top of the bill is LG’s Compressor Elite, which uses long-lasting suction power with simple and hygienic dust control to capture visible dirt and grime whilst being the worlds first motorised dust compressing system. The Compressor Elite also effectively reduces dust particles escaping back into the atmosphere, thus creating a cleaner and healthier home environment. Additionally, the unique Power Punch flushes out mites and fine dust by tapping the surface of bedding nearly 3,000 times a minute.

Dishwashers

What home would be complete without a dishwasher? Never fear for LG are launching a new dishwasher at this year’s IFA. Complete with Inverter Direct Drive and True Steam technologies.

The TrueSteam technology uses three different dedicated steam cycles – Steam power, Steam Gentle and Steam Dual Intensity – offering a more hygienic wash and making prewashing a thing of the past.

Better still, while offering superb cleaning performance, LG’s innovative Inverter Direct Drive uses less energy and water, meaning that customers will be paying less for maintenance.

Showing how it’s taking the concept of home appliances in entirely new directions, LG will also be lifting the curtain on a range of inspirational online tools and mobile applications. This groundbreaking initiative will offer services and tips that enable consumers to do household chores in smarter, more creative ways, thereby freeing up time to do things that are really important.

There are certain moments in life where you suddenly become unable to articulate your sentiments. Like when you’re at the doctors trying to explain the pain in your foot, but the words escape you and you end up pointing at your foot saying “it hurts” over and over. Well it’s a shame your foot is not made by LG because if it was you would simply be able to press a button and hold it up to the phone and the engineer on the other end would know the fault via SmartDiagnosis.

LG haven’t moved into the prosthetic limb business, instead SmartDiagnosis is a clever new idea that is being used on the latest LG washing machines to discover the fault with your product. It’s a very simple idea really, in the event a fault occurs the consumer enters a sequence on the display and the machine will play a series of tones that can be played over the phone to an engineer, saving the trouble of an engineer visiting without having the correct parts with him.

The possibilities for this are practically endless in terms of improving the efficiency of customer service and product repair as SmartDiagnosis could be used on practically any consumer product.

Offering green solutions to consumers is something LG have rightly invested heavily in over the past few years. These initiatives include a reduction of 2.1 million tons of greenhouse emissions in the first 6 months of 2009 and a $168 million investment in repurposing a decommissioned factory into a factory to make solar panels.

And some of these solar panels may well find their way onto LG’s latest air conditioning unit. It’s a wonderfully simple solution really – we use air conditioning as an answer to hot weather, so why not harness the sunlight causing the heat to help us cool off! The 28,000 BTU solar-powered air conditioner has a 70 watt solar array (panel) that supplies 10% of the 700+ watts required to power the unit. However the solar array feeds the air circulation and filtering system, meaning the unit will only draw mains electricity when the compressor is running.

This news will not come as a shock to anyone who follows LG products as environmental features have become an integral feature of their products of late. The Pop phone for one comes available with a built in solar-cell battery cover, designed to provide emergency charge when you are running low on battery and need that extra little charge to get you through the rest of the day.

Furthermore the LE5900 television recently received a 5 star rating from What LCD & Plasma Screen in a group test designed to assess the green credentials of a series of screens as the “42in edge LED panel typically uses 85w in full flow, which only a year ago would have been inconceivable”.

More information on LG’s environmental commitments are available here

The England football team may have crashed out of the World Cup prematurely, but we can still take comfort in being one of the best rugby union teams of the past 10 years, with a World Cup title and another appearance in the final. Ben Cohen MBE was one of the key players in the successful 2003 Rugby World Cup campaign and remains England’s 3rd highest try scorer of all time. But not a lot of people know that he is also keen on self-suffiency for his family home, and is considering installing solar panels at the 17 acre site of his rural home sometime in the future.

Cohen was particularly impressed to hear about the Therma V, LG’s new air to water pump, as it promises energy-efficiency. Having done his own research into the benefits, he expects return on investment after three to four years.

ACS Renewable Solutions Ltd will fit two Therma Vs in Cohen’s Northampton farmhouse and adjoining converted barn. Both will supply underfloor heating and domestic hot water while at the same time significantly reduce his family’s carbon footprint.

Therma V has shown to be up to four times more efficient than conventional systems. “I have small twin daughters and since they were born, the energy bills have soared,” says Cohen. “Also, we are fairly remote here and I would rather have our own source of energy on site, so we aren’t dependent on any outside supplier.”

Cohen adds that his neighbour had recently fitted a heat pump and was pleased with the results. It was this that started him thinking that a similar pump could be the answer to his high energy bills. However, it was not until he began to talk to LG on a trip to Fulham Football Club (the former team of his uncle, England world cup winner, George Cohen), that the idea took hold.

“I decided to do my own research into the options and could see that the Therma V was one of the most advanced and efficient on the market. I was also reassured by the LG name, knowing that this meant the technology had a good backing,” he says.

Designed for use both in new homes and renovations, Therma V works by using inverter heat pump technology to extract warmth from outside air. This renewable source is highly efficient to the point that the co-efficient of performance (COP), which is used to measure the amount of heat generated against the amount of electricity used to power the system, measures a COP of 4.1. This means the Therma V system produces 4kw of heating energy for every 1kw.

A few weeks ago we told you about LG’s latest fridge freezer – the GB7143A2PW1. With one of the largest capacities for a fridge-freezer on the market and a whole host of excellent features designed to help your food stay fresher free for longer meaning you can spend less time in the supermarket and more time doing the things you really love!

A product that takes the desperation out of housewives lives deserves a desperate housewife to help with the launch and thankfully that’s just what they had. Eva Longoria was there with her NBA star husband Tony Parker to launch the release of the GB7143A2PW1 in Madrid. Eva declared that the new LG new combi fridge fitted her life perfectly: “For my husband and I, it’s key to maintain a healthy diet, something that this refrigerator guarantees, as it helps food retain vitamins and nutrients for longer.”

To celebrate their latest range of innovative Home Appliances, LG held an exclusive event just off London’s Regent Street at the Artspace Gallery. Upon arrival you were greeted by an electric blue neon sign in the window, which said ‘STEAM’. The second you stepped inside and headed downstairs in the gallery, it became evident that steam was the theme with LG’s latest washing machines.

The models on display, including the F1443KDS (pictured below), were all part of LG’s revolutionary LG Steam Direct Drive Washer family. Building on last year’s successful large capacity direct drive range, this year’s LG has added an 11kg machine with with steam wash functions (something previously only available on the 8 and 9kg models).

These features all sound very impressive, but you may well be asking yourself what this means? Well let’s take it one feature at a time.

11kg capacity – this is the largest ever washer in a standard sized machine. Because the drum and inner tub are fixed to the frame of the washing machine, more of the space inside the cabinet can be used to give more room inside the drum with the same sized footprint. Now users can wash more, less often

Steam washing programmes – steam is the most intense form of cleaning because steam molecules are 1600 times smaller than water particles allowing them to penetrate right into the fabric and remove far more dirt that a normal wash. It will remove the most ingrained dirt from anything giving even the grubbiest sports kit a makeover

Allergy care – a combination of tiny steam particles and a ten minute spin at 60 degrees washes out dust, pollen and 99.98% of dust mites – eliminating annoying allergy enhancers from your clothes, sheets and towels

Refresh programme – If you need a fresh, clean shirt but you are in a hurry then you can simply put your machine onto the steam refresh setting and the machine will remove odours and creases in an impressive twenty minutes.

Steam saves energy – the steam used during washing will save up to 29% of water and 21% of electricity when compared to a conventional 8kg washing machine. In the course of a year that equates to savings of one months water and electricity expenses

Direct drive – this is a unique magnet system rotates the drum; the motor has no brush which is why it is super quiet and no belt or pulley which enhances durability. This super motor is then joined directly to the drum without additional parts, creating a perfectly balanced unit. Its so reliable, this motor has a 10 year warranty on all its parts

6 motion – Due to its design and unique to LG, the 11kg washing machine is able to perform various drum motions, or a combination of different motions depending on the wash programme selected. Combined with a controlled spin speed and the ability of the drum to rotate both left and right, the wash performance of the machine is greatly improved, giving you perfect results every time.

New damping system – the new 11kg models balance and control the vibration coming from the inner drum using a dual ball balancer (see more information on the next point) and a new damping system which controls movements and sound making for a much quieter wash

Dual ball balancer – there are a row of balls which form a ring around the edge of the drum at the front and back which naturally shift to the opposite side of the drum to the clothes. This helps to give perfect balance and reduce vibration

Let’s face it – going to the supermarket is rarely a pleasant experience. You always get a trolley with a broken wheel, you can never find what you want and the queues at the checkout are so long you’d think they were selling Lady GaGa tickets.

Well LG have decided to combat this by making one of the largest capacity combination fridge freezers on the market – the GB7143A2PW1. Furthermore it is also packed full of great features to ensure your food stays fresher for longer, whilst remaining stylish and chic. Both of which will save you from those painful trips to the supermarket, as you can buy more food on each trip and know it’ll stay fresh.

On Wednesday LG held an event at the Artspace Gallery just off London’s Regent Street to show off their latest innovations in the world of Home Appliances, including the GB7143A2PW1 combination Fridge Freezer. The event was for press and retailers to be able to come and see LG’s latest innovations across the full Home Appliance range including fridge freezers, microwaves, vacuum cleaners and washing machines, whilst enjoying some drinks and canapés.

The GB7143A2PW1 offers the largest capacity in a unit of this size, holding a massive 385 litres – that’s the capacity of nearly 3 bathtubs. I also discovered it is packed full of features designed to make your food stay fresher for longer, as well as a few to make your life a little easier.

Door mounted ice maker (which also accommodates 2 extra shelves by building this into the door)

Moist Balance Crisper – a unique, lattice-type sheet that prevents moisture accumulation by maintaining it at a constant, optimum level

Fresh Zero Zone – this fridge has a special compartment that can constantly stay at zero degrees which keeps the quality of meat and fish fresh longer while readying them to be the perfect temperature for cooking

Total No frost – powerful cold air is circulated so that the internal temperature remains consistent which reduces humidity and prevents the formation of ice. This also keeps your fridge hygienic while being odour and frost free – say goodbye to defrosting

Full LED lighting – LED lighting is used throughout the fridge so that consumers can see exactly what’s in the fridge even if it’s full to the brim, and because LED lights emit much less heat there’s no danger of the lighting taking away from the freshness of your food

Small compressor – the small compressor has been designed to give more freezing space as well as providing an extremely quiet fridge freezer that is much more energy efficient, giving it an A+ energy rating

Zero Clearance Function – the shelves within the fridge can be taken out to allow for easy cleaning, they also have ‘Spill Stop’ edges which prevent any liquids on the shelves from spreading throughout the fridge

The average family will do 1638kg of washing in a year. In a 7kg drum this equates to 234 washes. After considering that there are better things to do with your time, LG present the new F1443KD and the F1443KD6, two new machines with an 11kg drum, the largest in its class. In total, this machine will save you 87 laundry days over a year, whilst helping you to save money on your bills and the environment by using 20% less energy and less water. This improved efficiency is a result of LG’s patented ball bearing technology alongside a direct drive motor that provides a quieter, more efficient wash.

Direct Drive technology works by attaching the motor directly to the drum in place of the traditional pulley system heightening the stability and efficiency of the machine, as well as freeing up space for the 11kg capacity drum.

Designers seek inspiration in the most unusual places. The shape of a leaf or the color of a priceless vase might be enough to trigger the next season’s fashions.

Similarly, LG’s product designers are constantly in search of inspiration and closely follow trends in consumers’ habits and broader social issues that may be addressed through technology.

An example of this is how the home appliance industry has increasingly focused on the environment over the past two decades. Through designing more efficient technologies, the home appliance industry is working to address environmental issues. This “green” or “eco-friendly” approach has seen products reduce power consumption and eschew the use of environmentally harmful materials, including refrigerants.

As recent environmental disasters and H1N1 and Avian Influenza pandemics have reminded us, our lives are not separate from environmental issues.

Businesses have recognized this concern and are bringing products to market to take advantage of an increasing awareness of the need for environmental harmony. As a result, manufacturers like LG are focusing on eco-friendly designs that provide modern comforts with a reduced environmental footprint.

We blogged loads about LG’s amazing TVs at CES this year, and there seem to have been loads of buzz about them among all the other journalists and fans that visited the show too – it’s been really exciting! However, we mustn’t forget to mention the other great LG innovations that were on show as well, and over the next couple of days we will be adding to what we saw…

LG’s main innovations are in 3 sectors: Mobile devices, Home Appliances and Home Entertainment products. But LG also have a fantastic digital display department and are constantly doing research on how to get the very best screen quality – whether that be for their new TVs or for the vast array of Monitors and Digital Frames that they create.

Also on show at CES were a sleek selection of LG Digital Frames that allow you to display all your digital photos and movies in an ongoing slide show. The frames shown all had Bluetooth capability, meaning that any of your bluetooth enabled devices could beam content up to the frames without any need to insert a memory card or USB… Sweet! Lots of these are already on sale in the UK on the Highstreet and there will be more arriving later in the year.
