SXSW: Interacive Award Winners
March 17th, 2011 by LG Blog UKSo SXSW interactive has been and gone for another year, leaving in its wake a huge number of empty Starbucks coffee cups and tweets galore. We have seen the future of location based applications from SCVNGR founder Seth Priebatsch, some inspired startups, and more than a few uses of the word awesome.
The Interactive Awards Ceremony rounded off this year’s preceedings, recognizing the best achievements on the web and beyond. Presented by comedian and blogger Chris Hardwick (who is definitely worth a follow on Twitter), the list of winners reads as a who’s who of great online content.
Without going through each of the 22 winners and special honours recipients one by one, here are a few of my personal favourites.
Winners:
Art
The Johnny Cash Project was a wonderful idea to create a user generated music video for the song “Ain’t No Grave”. Contributors were given a frame and had to recreate it with the results being put together to create a video rich in varying artistic interpretation. As the video is played a timeline below shows all of the submitted drawings that make up the video, allowing you to rate your favourites and thus potentially change the frame used. A great example of user generated content integrating with art to create a truly unique product!
Student
Feedspeaker is a tool to help the visually impaired navigate the internet via speech recognition, specifically for RSS news feeds. It is free to use, doesn’t involve any software being installed onto the user’s PC and can be accessed by anyone from anywhere! FeedSpeaker combines state of the art open source speech recognition solutions with geocoded semantic data from some of the world’s top news feeds including BBC, CNN, Reuters, Time, National Geographic, The Guardian and NBC.
Motion Graphics
Regular readers of the blog may have noticed that today’s blogpost is posted later than normal. I do not claim responsibility, instead I put the blame squarely on the people behind Record Tripping. Winner of the Motion Graphics award at sxsw, Record Tripping uses beautiful motion graphics to create a series of games that will have you mesmerized for hours. Undoubtedly worth a look!
