LG to reduce greenhouse gas emissions by 14 million tons in 2011

March 29th, 2011 by LG Blog UK
We are all very aware of the impact our everyday lives can have on CO2 emissions and the subsequent effect this can have on the environment. With that in mind we are pleased that LG recently announced that they are on track to reduce their greenhouse gas emissions by almost 14 million tons this year, up from last year’s record of 12.9 million tons. 3D Modelling on your Phone

March 28th, 2011 by LG Blog UK
The brainy chaps at Microsoft Research have put their heads together and developed a 3D modeling application for a mobile phone! It works very simply – take multiple photos of the object from different viewpoints and the software uses overlapping shots to create a photo-realistic 3D model that can be rotated and viewed from different angles. In the video below Microsoft Researcher, Johannes Kopf, demonstrates the application by taking photos of his car and then showing the subsequent 3D model created by the application. To create the 3D mapping of an object like a car takes around 40 photos, whereas something...

SXSW: Music

March 25th, 2011 by LG Blog UK

Dubstep became a bit of a buzzword in 2010, with artists like Magnetic Man and Katy B putting on a good show in the charts. However at SXSW it...

Of course it’s not magic, the WP-700 uses inductive coils built into the battery doors and internal contacts, this creates a small electromagnetic field that subsequently is transferred to the...

BAFTA Video Game Awards 2011

March 22nd, 2011 by LG Blog UK
The single best Christmas present I ever received was my NES. Duck Hunt defined my life for several years, as I became an expert marksman with the Zapper light gun. This skill hasn’t served me particularly well in life, employers have often questioned why I bother including it on my CV, the truth is I’m just proud of my high score! They even have their own annual awards with...

#Happy Birthday Twitter!

March 21st, 2011 by LG Blog UK
Happy Birthday Twitter! Five years ago today founder Jack Dorsey sent the first tweet; “inviting coworkers” to colleagues at web firm Ordeo. Not the most epic first words, but then Dorsey couldn’t have predicted that four years later he would have over 200 million active users per week sending a billion tweets every week from a company valued at over $4 billion! Twitter’s San Franciscan beginnings may have been humble, thought up by Dorsey as he was sat eating Mexican Food in a children’s play area, but the subsequent growth and influence of Twitter has been staggering. Currently the top 5...

Popcode – the next wave of Augmented Reality application

March 18th, 2011 by LG Blog UK
We are big Augmented Reality fans at the blog – anything to integrate the digital world into the real world gets our hearts all a flutter. Often I can be found navigating my way to the nearest coffee shop in a new place via Layar, as people stare at me perplexed. Lately I have found myself captivated by Popcode – a new AR app developed by researchers at Cambridge University. Rather than scanning the traditional marker, Popcode works by simply scanning their logo to unlock the AR content. So far they have utilized their technology with some cool t-shirts – check...
