We sincerely apologise for the inconvenience the delay on the update has caused, but can confirm that the problems you have been facing with your upgrade have now been resolved.
If you have purchased your handset through Orange, O2, Tesco’s, Carphone Warehouse or Phones4u, you will now be able to upgrade successfully.
For those who have purchased through Vodafone, we will update you with further news about the software as and when it comes through.

More news from LG regarding the upgrade process on the GT540:

“When a Web D/L is performed the device may freeze at 4%. This is normal behaviour and this status stays at 4% for about 4~6 minutes. So do not remove the USB cable during this step. After this period, the SW upgrade process goes on.”

UPDATED 23/11/10:

We are aware that some users have experienced problems while trying to upgrade their LG Optimus GT540 handset to the Android 2.1 operating system. The problem stemmed from not all networks having accepted the upgrade when the news was first posted here on the blog.

Having checked with our technical team we can confirm that all networks will now accept the upgrade, with the exception of any customers on O2 pay as you go (as of November 23 2010). We will post more news on an upgrade for O2 pay as you go handsets when we receive more information. Thanks to everyone for their patience and to those of you who have provided advice to other customers.

    the software crashed half way through updating so now I have no phone. Can get it into ‘download mode’ but the upgrade tool says the device is not connected. What do I try now?

    Hi is there anybody who managed to install Android 2.1 successfully on the GT540? I am on O2 but after reading the comments here I am probably not going to install it. What a shame…

    i soooo wish id got a samsung galaxy, not just because its a “smarter” phone, but mainly because LG fail at customer support. Their website reads as though its gone through google backwards.

    yea but a samsung galaxy would cost you an extra 250 quid. the optimus is by far the best phone in this price catergory, but you are right the lg website is a mess and the backup is worse.

    Ive had the exact same problem, will be contacting LG on monday morning to complain…. my thinking is if they release an update to everyone in the UK it should be checked that the update will work for its customers instead of us waisting our time trying to get the upgrade to work with no or little success….

    Contact LG Twice today .. They are offering NO “Support” for anyone with this problem.
    They just told me that they know there is a problem and have No idea when there will be a fix???? This is Why the Apple have the advantage over all other phone manafacturers. They don`t put any software out there until they are convinced it works!!! … I am disgusted that LG have treated its UK customers like this… They need to get their act together. OR maybe LG should stick to making Fridge Freezers & Kettles and let the proper Phone companies like Samsung , HTC and apple make Smartphones. First and last LG phone I will ever buy…..

    I am on Orange and update does not work for me, Gets to Update now and then switches update off, Lg says aware and working on it, have to unplug usb lead and plug back in to see phone.

    Whats the difference b/w v20a & V10a mine is also detecting as v10a.Whenever I startup the software update tool it detects my phone version as v10a after which a prompt pops up asking me to disconnect the Phone from the PC so that the drivers can be installed.Once I download the driver LGUSBModemDriver v4.9.7 and it is installed successfully, a prompt asks me to reconnect my phone to the PC.Once I reconnect it, the same msg pops up again asking me to disconnect the phone so that the driver can be installed and installs the same driver to no avail. This cycle keeps repeating infinitely.I have mailed LG customer support 3 times but they have not even replied once

    Mine didn’t work the first time but when it installs the update be patient!!!!!! It takes forever. The phone turns off and then on again but straight onto “DOWNLOAD MODE” It then installs it (again be patient) and there you got it re-boots with android 2.1! IMPORTANT!!!!: Make sure you back-up apps, contact and everything else on phone! I made the stupidest mistake and didn’t and lost all my downloaded apps and contacts :( Update and new UI is really good though and I think, personally the phone seems a bit faster with this update!

    I had this problem and here’s how i solved it (if you have an SD card in your phone). Go to settings, SD card and phone storage and UNTICK “Mass Storage Only”. Then reconnect the phone to the pc.

    Phone should be in unlock mode. its really good after upgrading to 2.1 version. It took me 20 mins to update and update available on LG official website.

    Shouldn’t bother it won’t work. Other countries have already had updates so why should this not work? Suggest that LG are dragging their feet in order to shift other models. The only way is to boycott LG products until they get the message and treat customers better. Off to change mine for something better and stear well clear of LG in future.

    Cannot upgrade my Optimus either, I’m on o2 (can’t see how that make a difference) but tool says my version is v10a and has the latest updates, seems like this is a trend of some kind to UK phones.
    Did we get the batch that no other country wanted!!??
    Come on LG sort it out 2.2 is out now! may as well give us that instead of 2.1

    I have the same issue as you, LG customer support got back to me very quickly, the reason is certain networks have not confirmed their acceptance of the upgrade, and are at current sorting it out with them. I am on Orange, and they told me they have not yet heard back from Orange, but to keep checking back here over the next few weeks as hopefully they will get a reply from them soon. This isn’t a problem with LG here, but more a problem with our networks.

    My phone on o2 is a GT540GO. If you look in the list of available updates 2.1 upgrade is available for the GT540 but not the GT540GO. This is why the software says the phone is up to date. Should be easy for LG to fix this.

    If you go into phone settings and sd card and phone storage, uncheck usb mass storage only and your computer will then install the rest of the drivers and it should connect straight away, good luck!

    I can’t get the update to download – phone connects ok, no problem up to the download screen where its says downloading for about 10 minutes and then an error message pops up: “Failed to get information necessary for LG Cell Phone S/W Update. Please check the internet connection and press the Restart button” and when I do that it just freezes.

    This is ridiculous! I managed connect my phone by unticking the ‘Mass storage only’, but the the program couldn’t download the update, it says there is a problem with my internet connection (actually there isn’t). Any news with your phone?

    It feels like almost everyone that pops up saying that they got theirs to work actually works at LG. They don’t say how and you don’t hear from them again. Digitalstanislaw, SL, Anonymous, Sebastianwilliam, GrantThomson and SupInTheHood. I emailed LG about the same issues I’m having. LG GT540 Optimus on T-Mobile, bought at Carphonewarehouse so it’s unlocked. Phone gets stuck in Download Mode at 4% then gives error. One of LG’s response and I quote “I would recomend that you contact your network provider and request that the MMS settings are sent through to you from themselves. as without these settings you will not be able to send any multimedia such as pictures or images”. So apparently monkey’s are responding to emails.

    I have successfully upgraded using the LG update software. It took bloody ages! It turns out that at 4% the phone needs to reset itself into emergency mode. you’ll find it shuts down ok, but the first few times for me it didn’t start up again. you need to give it a few minutes – if its failed then after a while you’ll get a ‘communication error’ message which tells you to remove the battery and so on. follow the instructions and set it off again. if it dies again you will probably find it will reset back to your old 1.6 settings (so you haven’t lost anything!). then you can start again from the beginning.

    Just keep trying. eventually it will work.

    Downloaded their software again and new drivers from LG’s website and ried it again. Now the LGMobile Support Tool says I have the latest version, which I don’t. So now they’re using Jedi mind tricks, telling me that’s it’s updated so that I think and believe it’s updated. Life is not Good LG!

    My download stalled at 91% for 10 minutes….the screen on the phone turned off and there was no sign of a connection to my laptop. So I unplugged the phone and now it won’t switch on at all.

    I’ve disconnected the battery and put it back in, tried loads of button combinations but it’s dead. The battery was full.

    take the battery out, hold the ‘volume down’ button, plug the phone into the USB on the computer. *hopefully* you will get the ‘emergency download’ screen (which is a scary looking bluescreen). put the battery in without turning off or unplugging, then try the update again.

    Hi Ted, thanks for posting.

    Have already tried that and also tried it with the mains supply. Have also just gone onto the “Recovery” area of the LG software update tool with no success. I type in the IEDM number (or whatever it is) and the tool asks me to connect the phone. I do that but the phone doesn’t connect to the laptop. The USB ports are ok as I’ve connected my USB mouse to them without any problems.

    Also reinstalled all the USB drivers I could find for the phone but that’s just clutching at straws.

    Have logged an email with LG and will try to call them tomorrow. It’s very annoying!

    Please sort it out LG, when i contacted customer support i get a conflicting message than what you put here that being you say its now supported by all carriers accept o2, but customer support says orange still haven’t accepted. What is going on ?

    Well this is my (rather quick, it has to be said) response from LG.

    Unfortunately if there is any interruption which causes the phone to disconnect to the PC or network during the Android 2.1 update it leaves the phone severely damaged. This is because the phone is then left without a fully functioning operating system.
    Unfortunately the only option we then have is to book the phone in for repair, which can be done by contaacting our customer support number below. Please ensure you have the date of purchase for the phone and the IMEI number, which is the fifteen digit code under the battery of the phone beginning with 35, before calling.

    After much frustration I got the latest updater, new usb drivers all from the update page. I have a factory unlocked phone, but it has O2 card in at present, it says I have the latest version.
    I don’t see why O2 would make a difference, if I load an Orange card do I get Orange branded upgrade? I don’t have O2 branding now.

    Also using your update tool if you look at the lg optimus and what update is avaliable it says it can be updated something live v20, and then when i plug mine in it clearly says the software is v10, and then it won’t attempt an update, because apprently its got the latest software.

    I agree with you, after reading here some horror stories regarding it bricking the phones. I’d much rather just have 1.6 working well. I hope LG do something about this and just fix it and make it work, i can’t see why the networks would have such an issue, its not like they don’t have other android 2.1 phones on their networks. Also LG why are you just updating us to 2.1, especially as 2.2 is now out why not just role that out ?

    Now I’ve used allmost 2 days trying to update my GT540 from andriod 1.6 to 2.1. I’ve installed all programs offered by LG, uninstalled and installed them again – jesus im tired… The SW keeps telling me I’ve the latest version, but facts are:
    Andriod: 1.6
    SW ver.: V10C
    Network: TDC (Denmark)
    It would be nice if lgblog would come to a conclussion and tell us what to do!

    Same issue for me also e,g, updater says latest version installed.
    Had a Tmobile contract sim in but noticed in the updater that Tmobile highest sfw version is V10a.
    So just put a Orange PAYG sim in as sfw updater indicates that V20a is possible for GT540 on Orange.
    But – no change – still says “latest version already ”
    Pretty frustrating to put it mildly

    Hi, I have just bought an LG Optimus on o2 pay and go but i just wanted the phone as im on o2 contract. The phone firmware version is 1.6. The kernel version is 2.6.29 and the software version is GT540-v10a-MAY-13-2010. LG’s S/W updater says I have the most up to date software. Is this true, do I have android 2.1? I hope all the information helps.

I feel like a retard, having tried to update my phone so many times, without a result!     I’ve just seen this page after attempting to update, I’ve only bought the phone today on o2 PAYG! Suffice to say I wish I’d seen this page prior to attempting to install. Although having done this through the app which didn’t tell me of an issue with o2 I’m somewhat annoyed with lg too right now! I can’t get the blue screen/emergency download screen, mine simply goes back do download mode only, holding the volume down appears to do nothing, I can get it back to LG Mobile Phone Software Update and updating again but its constantly hanging! Any support to get this going again would be prefered to sending it away! Can anyone help??

    I.m from Poland and I’ve contacted LG customer service in my country and they said that Android 1.6 to 2.1 update was withdrawn, and that they will inform me about possibly re-entry of the update at the end of this month. So I’m waiting…

I have heard rumour that 02 hasn’t accepted the update yet which is crap because their cusomers cannot update. I have sent LG customer support a message regarding this rumour so i await their reply. Will let you know what they say

    No it’s android 1.6
    I’ve got exactly the same problem but mines unbranded from carphone warehouse We need 2.2 so that apps can go on the memory card instead of the useless 100mb or so we get. I’ m seriously wondering whether to get another android device that can have 2.2

    The GT540 is a great looking phone. Its just a shame its let down because LG won’t release 2.2 on to it.

    I have a generic, unlocked phone from CW. This means the update should be easily applied, as I don’t need a customised file from my network – there’s no network-specific software on the phone itself.
    Still, all I get is the ‘Your software is up to date’ message from the LG Updater. So disappointed with LG. Version 10A here btw.

    I get the same as you if I do it on my PC, but i tried to do it on my sister’s pc, then it says i can update, it starts the update procedure and then fails before it starts saying my device isn’t compatiable, Come on LG how hard can it be to sort this out ??? We’re all waiting here.

    in order to make your phone connect you need to go into settings, sd storage and turn off the mass storage option, then it will connect, however your then be stuck like the rest off us unable to go any further.

    Hi, I’m in the same boat. Have an LG GT540 running 1.6 on O2 (pay monthly). When I use the support tool it says that the phone has version V10A – and says this is the most up to date. When I select “supported model” in the tool, it seems to have two entries for LG GT540 on O2, one on V10A and the other on V20A. Is this an error on LG’s part? I’ve contacted LG support, but haven’t had an answer back…

    We don’t need an FAQ we are all aware why it doesn’t work, and that is you have not done the upgrade properly, when your software says we are running V10a software and then its the latest version, that isn’t out fault, thats yours , an FAQ isn’t needed for that. Your technical support department and man power would be far more use fixing the update. Please get this sorted out, this rate your update us all only to have the software out of date anyway because 2.2 will be out.

    I get the same issue as you, they all keep blaming the networks, but i don’t see how that matters when your starting with an unbranded phone. LG know what the problem is, can’t you just fix it ASAP. Everyone has the same problem you know its not our fault.

    My lg is unbranded and i have not been able to update, so network acceptance should not matter.
    However i have contacted orange about the upgrade for pay as you go customers, as far as i am concerned we pay good money for our phones and the networks need to acknowledge that…
    But other than not being able to get the upgrade the gt540 is a very good little phone with the 1.6 andriod software..
    A note to those who complained about the 4% stop it does say on the lg site to leave it running as it is part of the upgrade process (( time span for upgrade depends on your connection and how busy the lg server is)), another factor to consider is do not use wireless connection when upgrading, use ethernet cable, wireless can drop now and then..
    Back to the support tool saying that we have latest version when we don`t, it has to be a bug lg my phone is unbranded!!!!!!!

    I have a LG GT540 on Android 1.6 its not network branded and its not locked as it was purchased from Carphone Warehouse.
    I cannot seem to get the LG Updater to update 1.6 to 2.1 due to being unbranded.
    LG UK Seem unable or are unwilling to help those with unbranded versions.
    I explained if it was an unbranded nokia their updater would update for it.
    Please how do i update to 2.1 I use predictive text and every time i turn off my phone my user dictionary goes blank this is terrible.

    Mine is the same. Unbranded from the carphone warehouse but used on Orange PAYG. Couldn’t install the update using the method on the LG website but searched another website and found a step by step guide using a different method. Now running android 2.1 with no problems.

    This is my first lg phone, well when i say my first i mean my third because the first 2 stopped working when i tries to upgrade them. Luckily i got it from the Carphone Warehouse and they replaced my phones as they were only a day or so old and advised not to try to upgrade it again until the problem had been resolved my LG. Can you imagine what would happen if Microsoft released an update and it screwed all the computers up. It just dosen’t happen. Come on LG. get this sorted……

    Now PC Suite doesnt connect my phone at all (‘Unable to Find Phone’), be it via USB or Bluetooth. Tried re-installing PC Suite but same problem.

    But my phone was bought unbranded and is exactly as you left it when you sent it out of the factory, all i did was stick my sim card in it, I did not get orange to send me any of their software settings why would this make any difference ??? I fail to see why any of this would be a concern to the networks, since they all have phones on their systems that run android 2.1, symbian and windows 7, it really is not like their systems are incompatiable with the software, if anything before long 1.6 will be incompatiable as it would have moved on and they will not have any support for it, it would be like trying to get techincal support from Microsoft for Windows 95.

    I got it from orange shop about 3 months ago, it has the orange logo on start up, idk how it worked so well though, like i said plugged the phone in to the PC started the LG Update software clicked update then a couple of minutes later its done, i have had no problems with the phone running 2.1 all is fine.

    I am on O2 payg and upgraded my GT540 to v2.1 around 2 weeks ago with no problems. I occasionally get a ‘server not responding’ note flash up but it has not affected the operation of the phone at all. one point i would make is that the sims 3 which is pre installed on 2.1 will not work. Other than that fine.

    I had a response from LG over 4 weeks ago after a failed update after stopping at 30% phone now says up to date buut still 1.6, they said aware of prblem and sorting, my phones in limbo pending upgrade,surely this problem shuld be rectified now, Also read today that LG (Malasia i think) stated Android 2.2 would be released December 2010, perhaps LG uk should be putting thier effort into 2.2

    Just to say, I gave up waiting as well and followed the steps on Android Modaco. Couldn’t have been simpler and took 10 mins to complete, once everything had been downloaded. Recommended. Shame the manufacturers can’t match the level of support that the modding community can.

    I ask as thats what i did and its working perfectly no problems, and this is after I upgraded to 2.1.

    i bought a gt 540 for the excellent reviews, it must of been lg themselves who wrote these as i am totally annoyed that i cannot upgrade yet other phone manufacturers are already runnig 2.2. lg this is the worst phone i have ever had and will be returning to sony ericson soon if you don’t sort this out. as is every one else i am disgusted and feel like i am being lied too. sort it out lg please

    Response from LG 16 November 2010 as advised they were aware at that date, I would not have thought a software glitch should take this long to rectify, I bought my phone on the basis of a email from LG confirming an upgrade to 2.1 was available and unless it is resolved very soon it will be going back because at the moment it is unusable, many android apps are not suitable for 1.6 and any that waste your data usage downloading will be removed on upgrading so LG get your ass in gear its now getting beyond a joke.

    There is no use of my phone until and unless I get a firmware update for my optimus V10. LG knew about this glitch long before and still they are NOT trying to resolve it. We want the firmware update cuz just saying “their team working on it” is NOT ENOUGH….!!!

    i doubt we will ever get above 2.1. some people on other forums have reported being told the phone cant handle that high but modders have got it working but its still unfinished.

    Hey LG,
    not really from the UK, but from the Balkans.
    The problem is I can’t really install USB drivers. It’s really confusing, I press “Download USB drivers”, and then it says they’re downloaded, then it leaves me with two opened files, each in it’s own zip archive and the main application dedicated to the upgrade crahses. It’s really unstable, and I’m just wanting to tell you guys, since the upgrade really isn’t something I’m eagerly waiting for, but it could still be nice to have a 2.1 phone.

    (Otherwise, the phone is awesome, I’m very satisfied).

    i reset my computer lost all my info on it as well. when i had reset it said update now i did then it diconected my laptop from the internet. i connected back up to it and since then it says i running the most upto date firmware v10a but still on 1.6 im not happy. unlocked o2

    lg is really giving very bad service.they should @ least announce when the update will be available so that we don’t have to keep checking.they should have @ least come out with the 2.2 or 2.3 as they are taking so long.

    Like craig said- I absolutely love my LG, however not being able to upgrade to 2.1 or now 2.3 (need to play a bit of catching up tbh!) is a big blow.

    Unfortunately its not LG that is the problem, it’s O2.

    LG have released the 2.1 update for the GT540, to all networks including O2, O2 are usually months behind in putting new updates on, I spoke to an O2 sales assistant and he said that it will be at least mid-January before O2 get 2.1.

    I’m mroe thinking regardless whether the phone can handle more than 2.1 they will not want us to have it. Why would they ??? They have bought out the upgraded Optimus One, and the Optimus 7, so if we can just upgrade the software and then as good as have their new more expensive phone whats in it for them ???
    They want us to buy the new phones.

    :) Good grief, well mines is now on 2.1, it can be done and with LG tools – OK not from UK but from the Modaco site. Upgrade via instructions on this site was a breeze. BUT :
    The LG USB drivers are rubbish, I’ve had a number of instances when connection to Win XP does not work. The new ones I downloaded with the update work OK, but only in one of my 2 USB2 ports. BUT this maybe a feature of my Mac (Yes Mac, I run XP via Vmware, only for stupid apps that won’t run on Mac OSX)
    My phone is on Tescos pay monthly (which is O2), it was an unbranded, unlocked phone from carphone warehouse. It has now been reloaded with LG V20b Sep-13-2010 Android 2.1-update1.
    I’ve been in IT for 20 years and all I can say is whenever there is a problem like this I look for the common denominator, and what it seems to be yet again is windows. Come on guys Android is Linux isn’t it about time someone decided enough is enough and built cross platform tools so we dont have to rely on Microsoft again. At least the phone is not microsoft (do let me start on that subject…!!)

    Verdict of update – looks exactly the same, does the same, any ideas why I did it?

If you cannot provide this, then I think its safe to say that NOTHING has been done since this problem was pointed out to you weeks ago and that nothing is likely to be done. Apart from anything else, 2.1 is already out of date.

    I just did the same. Works smoothly! Thought I’d bricked it because Windows crashed the KDZ FW Uploader, however after pulling out the battery then trying again, it worked! (set the application priority to highest so windows would do it again lol.)

    2.1 is nice, though now i’d like to see 2.3… Like I previously said- It’s the catching up game!

    i do agree 2.1 looks the same, much like upgrading windows 95 to 98, but really its more a matter of compatibilty with new apps. the last thing you’d want is to have the phone where you can’t download new apps and have no software support for it.

    The Reason I’m so annoyed is because I spent about 3 hours trying to sort it as it says nothing on the main site where you can download the suite!!!
    It’s not difficult to take down the link and put up a link to this blog post so people actually know there is a problem – lucky for me my problem was the connection but I feel sorry for those of you who now have phone problems.
    I hate being negative but for such big company’s to be still waiting for this to be fixed its a bad reflection on your customer services and such a shame for a low budget phone that is actually fantastic and not received the praise it should have to be let down by this!
    I’m sure you guys and gals are working hard but come on sort it out..

Hearing the news it will be after the New Year, I expect the LG Dev team to take some more time and give us a real, proper upgrade to 2.2.     Afraid things can only get worse, recieved email from LG Ireland yesterday stating that Google are handling this problem now so in view of google have now released 2.3 what chance is thier of resolving 1.6 to 2.1 upgrade, I bought this phone on the strength of LGs confirmation that it was upgradable to 2.1 so feel thourally shafted, suggest every body hound LG customer support.

    I had the exact same thing with my LG GD510 – it always wanted to install the usb drivers. I fixed it by going into Device Manager and manually uninstalling all the LG devices then reboot and run the update tool. It should ask to install drivers just once this time…. HTH

    Google’s answer: Android OS updates are manufacturer specific with the exception of the Nexus One since it’s Google’s specific phone.     Upgrade site seems to back up. Just successfully upgraded. Although not without problems.While upgrading, told me there was a connection loss between device and Pc. I would have to take battery out and press volume key to do it in emergency mode. This seemed not to work but had no choice as the mobile was showing replace battery. Replaced battery and pressed retry. This has worked, phone is upgraded. But I wish it had not crashed as it made me panic.

    Warning! If you are sold a GT540GO instead of GT540, you cannot update the Android from version 1.6! Once the LG update page was back in business I tried, and it says upgrade available for GT540, but not for GT540GO, and when I try, it tells me that my phone has the latst version.

    Needless to say I am returning the phone to the vendor, as my order and the invoice were for a GT540, NOT a GT540GO

    Hi I upgraded my girlfriends gt540 without any problems.
    She is on o2 pay and go upgraded on a win7 platform.
    Firstly the phone wouldn’t cannot to lg sync but by default it was set to mass storage mode, once I turned this off the phone connected and synced contacts etc…

    Why would you not be able to update a GT540GO? It is exactly the same phone.

    GO denotes that it was sold as a payg phone and therefore locked to the network.

    Are LG suggesting that anyone who purchased a payg GT540 return it.

    Hi all, I have an unlocked LG GT540 purchased from Carphone Warehouse. I plugged it into the PC last night and low and behold it finally recognised the fact that it needed the V20A 2.1 android update + let me perform this via the LG update tool!! (I have windows 7 64 bit)

    I am now using 2.1 using my UK O2 PAYG SIM and am very pleased with it, live wallpaper and improved calling and SMS features!

    The only issue I had was with my contacts I had backed these up with the PC suite, but had problems putting them back onto my phone, thus resorted to doing these maually (Doh!), but all seems to be fine now

    Another GT540, O2 Pay as you go customer here. Just did the upgrade and everything went as smooth as silk. It took all of 11 – 12mins to do from start to finish, I will admit it was the most nerve racking 12 minutes of my life but that doesn’t matter now it is done.

    I didn’t bother backing up my contents or apps. I preferred the idea of re-adding the stuff again and perhaps re-tooling the apps to how I now use the phone now.

    All in all I am impressed with the update so far, the contacts app loads so much faster now and there are quite a few nice changes here and there. I can even play Angry Birds now thanks to the update. I appreciate LG investing the time to bring us the 2.1 update. I hope you guys have a good Christmas and once again thanks for getting things sorted.

    Agreed seems to be sorted now, Tried first via wifi on Lappy but lost server and couldnt reconnect, so tried main desktop and went smoothly, only snag i have seen so far seems to be a lag on unlock and shutdown buttons when trying to shutdown, must admit only just upgraded so havent benn thru settings yet, but now v20c 9 dec 2010 and 2.1 upgrade 1 , if only LG would be more open.

    yeah this update is working fine. Initially I wasn’t able to upgrade my mobile as that software said I have the latest version but after waiting about a month My phone firmware upgradation went smoothly. I never bothered to upgrade my mobile from unofficial site like mocodo cuz that have many problem….and those who tried from there have many flaws in their new firmware.

    Can LG confirm that the GT540GO will receive an update?

    They are the same phone and can use the same firmware. Surely LG just need to tweak the update software.

    For anyone wondering what the difference between the two phones are.

    GT540 = Sim free phone
    GT540GO = Purchased on payg and locked to whichever network you bought it on.

    If you bought your phone from Carphone Warehouse it will be sim free even if you bought it on pay as you go. This is why some payg cutomers can update and others can’t.

    I bought my phone from Argos it is a GT540GO locked to o2 and I am not able to update at this time.

    A slight problem with the upgrading … although my internet connection, memory etc. are ready for the upgrade, (after the analysis process is complete) the D/L process does not start at all… not even 1%… and after 4-5minutes a command box pops up asking to restart the upgrade process…

    Nice to things went well! It’s frustrating from a customers point of view, when you know it’s not O2 that’s bugging up, but rather LG. I had issues however managed to upgrade to the KDZ software. I’m a GiffGaff user (runs off O2/T-mobile) Network and now things are fine.

    my old version was 1.6 v10 c & now its 2.1-update 1 v20b – dec 08 – 2010 !!
    all i can say is if update dont work try using gt540GO usb drivers !!

    I just got my GT540 updated a minute ago without problems. It’s from Carphone Warehouse on T-Mobile network. All i did was wait it out for a few weeks I guess and came back to this website. Seeing some persons getting there update to work I decided to try again. The only thing I did different is that now I’m in the US and I updated the LG PC Suite…that’s it. After days of annoyance before, now…it just worked like I was the one doing something wrong.

    the GO IN GT540GO just means it was locked to a network when it left lg factory if it then gets unlocked & sold as new its still a gt540go also on no phone does it say if ur phone is a “GO” or not !

    DON’T UPDATE YOUR PHONE TO 2.1 CUZ ITS WORTHLESS. AFTER UPDATING MY PHONE I FOUND THAT NOW VIDEOS ARE RECORDED IN 3gp Format AND THE VIDEO QUALITY SUCKS(earlier videos were recorded in mp4 format and were much shaper and clear)!!! AND EVEN MOST OF THE 3gp videos are NOT SUPPORTED BY PHONE WHICH EARLIER USED TO RUN SMOOTHLY BEFORE UPDATING.
    If u want to experience only live wallpaper at the cost of other important things then go ahead and spoil your phone. but remember that once u have upgraded ur phone then u cant downgrade it.
    Lg team spoil the phone rather than improving it…they suck!!!! Why cant they cross check everything before?

    The update tool says that my unbranded GT540, which I bought in the Czech Republic, is running the latest version. I bought this phone specifically to run Android 2.1, so I’m extremely angry and disappointed with LG.

YOU SHOULD UPDATE TO 2.1 you can run alot more apps & games now in 2.1 & you can control & force close running apps which also showed that app killer app i downloaded wasnt doing anything at all 2.1 USES ALOT LESS SPACE compared to 1.6 the only thing i dont like is the poor live wallpapers that come with it & sims 3 is pre installed & u cant remove it i dont like sims so its a waste of space for me !! ps. aquarium & earth are best free live wallpapers on market ive found ! happy xmas all !

    It was a nervous 10 minutes having bricked 2 phones a month or so ago but wehay, it worked. Updated the lg sync program first, plugged in my phone and pressed the red button.

    Just called LG customer services who said they had no idea why the blog says the update is back up. They are still working on it and it could be another few weeks before it is all sorted. They have advised that no one try to update at the moment.

    I told them about the information on the blog and they told me not to trust it.

    Since upgrading my gt540 the contacts option is useless. I cannot bluetooth or sms a contact to my phone. I am sure it has also affected the gps functionality badly. Navdroyd no longer seems to pick up my location.
    I have had an email back from customer services saying they have no plans to upgrade past 2,1.
    All I can say is I wish I had not bought this phone at present!

    I’m trying to update from India i’m getting the error message saying “fail to get information necessary for LG cell phone S/W update” so funny above all it advices me to check the internet connection too…

    regretting for buying this phone. Should have bought Samsung galaxy :( ( Will never do this mistake again with LG. Thanks LG for everything.

    1. download the USB drivers and install them.
    2. Install the drivers
    3. restart machine and phone
    4. restart the update program

    it must work now.

    Same problem here. Installed correct USB drivers, restarted phone and computer, and still no joy.

    Your phone is probably acting as Mass storage only. To solve this go into the settings menu and select SD card & phone storage. The top option under USB connection mode should say Mass storage only and will be ticked. Untick this option and your phone should then be recoginised by the LGmobile update tool. Hope this solves your problem.

    He is how I just solved it. Make sure your phone is unplugged and turned off. Open the LGMobile support tool, then plug in your phone while it is still switched off. Windows will sort out all the drivers for about 30 secs and then your phone should be recognised.

    Really starting to get annoyed here. On O2 PAYG in the UK, and purchased with the intention of updating.

    Bit of a let down that the phone update stays at 0% on the “Download” stage and asks me to check my internet connection, after spending a few hours trying to figure out which drivers to download and get to this stage.

    Sent an email to LG support asking what the issue is, seeing as they stated above that it was fixed.

    A shame, because it’s a nice phone.

    If you can’t recognise phone, go to settings > SD card settings tab (different name in 2.1 and cant remember old one) then un-tick ‘Mass Storage Only’. Now try, this should work!
    I’ll try wright up a blog post on possible issues on upgrading and link back here, however I used the KDZ updater which was more complicated in it’s own way.I’ll try explain how I did that, however this may void your warranty so for those who aren’t so techy, i’d say wait it out.
    I’d say curiosity killed the cat for 2.1 with the exception of the updated android market + more apps.

    I hope you guys get 2.1 working soon!

    uninstall everything then reinstall, restart pc / remove sd card restart phone then connect to pc ! (if all else fails you cud also try debugging mode on phone) peeps have managed to update all versions on 02 paygo !

    remember that 2.1 is only a little bit better than 1.6 but lg have offered it despite the fact they knew it would be a huge headache for them ! the gt540 is a good looking & feeling budget android ! my updated gt540go (02 pay&go from argos) has managed to run nearly all of the high end 3d games (wouldnt play them b4 on 1.6)

    Myself, Lathron, modplod, 07529AN and Waleedahsan are all on o2 payg and can’t update. Your statement that people have managed to update all versions on o2 is incorrect.

    So far I have tried it on a Windows 7 PC, a Windows XP PC reinstalled drivers tried both GT540 and GT54GO drivers. Switched off the firewall and tried putting the phone into debugging mode. Nothing works.

    until we get 2.2 froya we wont be able to run apps & games from sd card !! the phones memory isnt big enough to store more than 1 hd game at a time so ive scanned internet FOR ANDROID GAME APK FILES !! put them on my sd card & just install games from my sd card when i want play them ! you will need a file manager to install games & apps from the sd card (free file manager from market) !! WHEN U INSTALL GAMES FROM APK FILES STORED ON UR SD CARD IT IS VERY QUICK NORMALY ONLY TAKES 5 TO 10 SECONDS TO INSTALL A GAME FROM A APK FILE & THERE IS LOTS OF APK FLOATING ABOUT ON THE NET ! EG : GET ANDROID STUFF .COM !

    Hi guys. i done the update on my lg gt540. but now the pc suite is not sync my phonebook/ music/photos into my phone. i had to manualy enter all my phonebook entrys though .csv files. and mass storage my music and photos. the pc suite is showing that the phone is connected. but it is not syncing. i have check my phone and found that in the sync menu. pc suite is offline. and when its connected. it still saids offline. i can’t reactive it!! i been to carphone warehouse and they said to do a factory restore. but i want a second opion before i do this!

    NEWS ! LG GT540 – OpenSwift Project 2.2 FROYO ROM , have 2.2 working with only a few bugs, eg : camera & radio dont work,why cant lg help out & release an beta 2.2 rom for testing themselves ?? android is open source after all & we should be helping each other !!

    I just got my LG Optimus gt540 today and when I checked the firmware version, it said ’2.1 update1′, does it mean that LG has already updated this somehow? I am getting so confused. Also I have been trying to upgrade this phone using my Mac but I kept getting an error so I have given up on this as well.

    Unfortunately at this moment in time o2 do not support their o2 pay-as-you-go customers to update their handsets to Android 2.1.

    i dont think LG know whats going on. I waited and waited for the upgrade to be fixed having bricked 2 phones. and when i saw that LG had fixed the problem just before christmas i plugged my phone in again and the upgrade went smoothly. Im on O2 Pay and Go and the phone is working fine. It looks like Lg are just trying to blame either Google or O2. All i did was make sure i had the latest version of the PC Suite and away it went. I must admit i find it strange why for some people it works fine and for some it doesn’t..This is my first LG phone and the amount of hassle i have had and all you lot out there are still having i won’t be getting another one…

    2.2 FROYO WAS MADE TO FIX THE BUGS IN 2.1 that means we are being sold faulty software with bugs !! the android system was made to be open source to fix issues like bugs easily & cheaply all manufacturers have a duty to support a stable android platform for there devices thats the point of android & thus 2.2 froyo is now the standard no bugs platform for android devices if the gt540 isn’t updated to 2.2 froyo lg will be breaching our consumer rights & will be breaking the law !!

    When I updated mine succesfully, I cleaned out all files apertaining to LG from my PC fom previous attempt at aborted upgrade pending future update, then when i updated againg redownloaded all neccesary software afresh, whether this helped to final updating or not i dont know but it might be wise to do it anyway.

    I upgraded my LG GT540 to Android 2.1 about 1 month ago, it works great!!! No problems at all, just one word of advice, running LG PC Suite on Windows 7 or Windows Vista will be better, i couldn’t upgrade my phone when i used XP. When are we getting 2.2 Froyo??? Please tell ?

    your case is really weird, my GT540 is my very first LG and i must say, they dun hv much market share in my country but heck, it’s one fine piece of engineering (considering the price, it beats even the more expensive ones!!) ! I’ll surely be buying the Optimus 2x! I think u should install the LG PC Suite on a Vista or Windows 7, it will definitely work! It didn’t work well when i first tried it on Windows XP, kept on reinstalling the drivers and wouldn’t proceed after that…

    What?! I have GT540GO apparently, why can some update and others can’t? Surely it’s the same phone! Update software claims version V10a is the latest, the supported model list shows 3 GT540 models for O2 but only one has the latest version V20b, why?

    Hi guys. I am on o2 payg asweel. I have managed to upgrade my lg. Everything went fine untill I rebooted my mobile and millions of error messages came up on my screen, could not make any calls or anything and today my mobile turned itself off and I can’t get it to switch it back on. Also it does not say anything on LGs website next to upgrade that O2 payg is not supported.

    google has stated that 2.2 is supposed to be 500% faster/lighter weight than 2.1. !! i device was released with 528MHz processor, accelerometer sensor, 256mb RAM, and 512MB ROM with 2.2 froyo in october 2010 note the gt540 has the same stats except a better 600mhz processor !!

    “A Froyo OS upgrade, will be available to all LG Ally handset users in February, 2011.”

    the gt540 has out sold the ally 10 to 1 & has the same specs & system as the ally !!
    shouldn’t we get the same upgrade in February 2011 too !!

    it is not worthwhile to upgrade to 2.1 if you have already customarize your mobile and have a lot of apps set up already. amongst all the claimed features of 2.1, only bluetooth is practical and useful. i wait 4 2.2 for app2 sd

    the Ally was not a phone released in the UK, meaning that the person speaking in reference to the upgrade would not have been speaking in reference to the UK.

    Currently there is no word on a further upgrade of the GT540, but please know we will certainly let everyone know when we hear more news

    LG nothing much seems to be happening re Vodafone upgrade to 2.1. Have you an ETA?

    Just to depress GT540 users further Vodafone just updated all HTC Wildfire customers from 2.1 to 2.2.

    Nice and smooth and out of the blue. No noise, no fuss just a little text and job done!

    Who says you cant run from SD card on 2.1, I am quite happily running Sygic MM10 from sd card and none of my varous apps have been downoaded from the market all gave been installed from the SD card including Astro file manager via the LG installer so poppycock.

    I have GT540 Updated to 2.1 before official update with help from a friend.
    | must agree we need 2.2 Froyo for our phones my phone still loses the words from the predictive text user dictionary as it did on Android 1.6.
    Also there seems no option to check for updates on the handset unlike my neighbours HTC Wildfire which he bought for just under £130 plus £10 airtime from Phones4U and it was open to any network wish i had held back till now oh well.
    LG get your finger out and give us 2.2.

    Correct in principle Mats Girl, answer should have been for previous poster who stated that you couldnt install from SD card, but having said that it doesnt insall my maps onto internal memory for Sygic MM10 these are read from the SD card, so not entirely true.

    Not seeing any of these probs on my CPW GT540 2.1 although there is a definite Lag between any operations and certainly agree 2.2 is needed asap, maybe because on Paygo i dont use market place all my apps are downloaded and installed via usb from PC whether this is making a difference dont know?

    I am glad to see you have read my comments and the reason why are – when i purchased my GT 540′s I was informed that I will be able to update my phone to the 2.1 – I thought that sounds good !!
    Then you just try it – I down loaded the drivers did it all as your web site advised – I have 3 GT540 to update well the first one frozen half way through then just went black and turned off !! I tried to re install but the message said update was complete = That phone had to be sent back for repair – I thought surely the next one will update – I made sure that i reinstalled the drivers but no – the message on my laptop said my phone was not connected to the USB – as I have 3 GT540 I have 3 USB cables to try – but NO not one of the would work !!
    Then you read all the comments here and think – Whats happening to LG what the problem all other mobile phones update with a touch of a button – So come on wake up you must be embarrassed.

    The thing is i am of the impression that LG have no desire to take us upto 2.2 and behond, even if the phne is capeable of it, from a marketing stand point why do they want to give us the software, especially with them bringing out new versions of the optimus. being the one, chic, and black all of which are more powerful than the gt540. It’s like Microsoft not really giving much support for windows XP now.

    I understand your desire to receive the latest upgrade to 2.2 on your phone, but please bear in mind that the 2.1 upgrade was only just recently made available.
    With regards to the above license agreement from Google, the document states that the software which you use MAY automatically download & install updates. This means there is no obligation on our behalf to upgrade the handset.
    I have escalated your query regarding the 2.2 upgrade to head office and am awaiting further information on whether or not a 2.2 upgrade will be made available to 2.1 users

    Now that the official upgrade has been available (again) for a while now, how is everyone getting on with it? I’ve held back from upgrading myself, mainly because I don’t want to run the risk of potentially destroying my phone, and also because it looks quite tricky to backup all of my contacts (they’re not stored on Google) and also my SMS messages. I’m not too worried about my apps, as I’ll just write them all down on a piece of paper and get them back later.

    Is the update now completely stable? And is there anyone out there who has upgraded since the ‘fix’ and suffered any major problems?

    Also, if there is any chance of LG putting 2.2 on this phone I’m sure it would be greatly appreciated by everybody on here, even as a simple way of apologising for the earlier trouble with the 2.1 upgrade. I know it might be difficult due to commercial reasons, but I’m afraid LG might end up alienating a lot of potential customers if they don’t release a 2.2 upgrade. I would certainly have reservations about purchasing LG in the future…

    Google have released a new version of Gmail but it will only work on 2.2 and above. Other versions of their own apps are been released soon but will need 2.2 onwards to work, If you go on the android market a lot of the new apps and updated versions of popular apps have been released will only work on 2.2 onwards. You can only download a limited number of apps for the phone because you can only use the internal memory but with 2.2 you can use the memory card. Come on LG, pull your finger out !!!!!!!!!!!!!

    I’ve even been into the carphone warehouse with my o2 phone, and they couldn’t upgrade it either.. They said its the update program that needs fixing!

Please lg can you make a video tutorial if its possible? i had to pay 20 pound for the repair which i feel was extremly inconvenient!! but still LG can you make a tutorial?

    When the phone was repaired, did you get 2.1? or was you back to 1.6?
    Paying some-one £20 to upgrade my phone instead of going through this nightmare is worth it..

    This is the last thing i buy with an LG badge on it.. And i’m sure i won’t be the last person to say this… No support at all, Mr LG Blog just says it should work, but it doesn’t or he’ll say contact tech support, who either don’t answer at all, or when they do answer say, it should work!

    Same here DT, my handset is down as a GT540GO using the O2 network and I cannot update, as I’m aware users with the GT540 (no GO at the end) phone can update, why is that? I paid for this phone I expect the same updates to be available to me!

    I have a gt540GO on the O2 network. LG support have replied to my 2 emails (I sent two in case they missed one) both replies saying that the update to 2.1 has been pulled from the servers as there are still problems with it. This means that NOBODY should be able to do updates at the moment.
    Strangely, they pointed me to the blog to get up-to-date info on the status of 2.1, yet here it states that the update is all sorted and working for everyone except Vodafone.
    If LG cant even synchronise their customer communications, what hope do we have that they can release a working upgrade?!

    No I meant i have three mobiles to upgrade – and i took the one that would not work at all back to carphonewarehouse and they repaired and updated to 2.1 now it works fine.

    hey im form india I just bought my GT540 yesterday.. installed official software tools from lg’s website.. i followed all instructions in the beginning first it used to get stuck at 4% then after retrying it got stuck in 15%!!! i knew removing the cable at that time would brick my phone but i had no other options but to remove it!! MY PHONE IS BRICKED NOW!! TRIED SEVERAL METHODS FROM XDA-FORUMS NO HELP!! FUCK YOU LG!!

    i installed 2,1 yesterday and it has totally messed my phone up. rang lg, now got to wait for a courier to come and take my phone away to be repaired. 7-10 days i have to wait!!!!! When i complained that the upgrade should not be on if it is causing so many problems, I was told it no longer is. Shocking service

    I upgraded both my son’s GT540′s OK, but they were only recognised after turning off the setting for mass storage mode only (thanks pirateuk – “Your phone is probably acting as Mass storage only. To solve this go into the settings menu and select SD card & phone storage. The top option under USB connection mode should say Mass storage only and will be ticked. Untick this option and your phone should then be recoginised by the LGmobile update tool.”).
    However, now they have a problem in that texts are often delayed arriving and calls can’t be received even though 3G is shown as a good signal. Turning off 3G allows texts to work (not sure about calls). Other sites have anecdotally reported similar issues for 2.1, so this is yet another argument for 2.2 (I can’t revert them to 1.6, and they are not very useable as phones now!). Please get a 2.2 release for the GT540 as soon as possible.

    I had to go to my O2 shop today and while i was there i was asking the tech bloke about the 2.1 upgrade. I told him that i had managed to upgrade my phone just before Christmas when according to the LG Blog people, the upgrade was back up and running. He said that O2 HAVE NOT OFFICIALLY ENDORSED THE UPGRADE TO 2.1 AS THEY WERE STILL HAVING ISSUES WITH ITS STABILITY. This would explain why my phone seems to have a mind of its own every now and again..but if you read the last blog from LG (dated 23.12.10) O2 is on the list of approved providers. Why have they put this on there if O2 haven’t approved the upgrade yet. The O2 bloke said to keep an eye on the O2 site for more information as to when they will approve the upgrade but for now i will have to put up with a ghost in my phone thanks to LG………….what a bunch of idiots

    Well can you explain since i did the upgrade why dose my phone now restarts 3 or 4 times a day without notice, applications crash or won’t start all the time, the analogue clock on the main screen appears every now and again, the phone keeps freezing all the time plus various other problems.

    You didn’t give much info to go on (like your provider and whether the phone is pay as you go). I suspect what has happened is that when you upgraded your phone it set all the “settings” that your phone needs to use your providers internet to default.

    When you buy a new phone you get two text messages that contain instructions for your phone on how to use the network. When you upgraded your phone it became “new” again and these instructions need to be sent to your phone again.

    I have a GT540 on O2 pay as you go so I can only tell you how I did it. Bring up the applications screen and look for the “SIM Toolkit” app. Start that up and scroll down the list of options till you come to “Get Settings” select that option. This will tell your phone provider to text the settings to your phone. When you get the text’s you will be instructed to select “install” and that will set your phone up again to use the providers network.

    Once again this is for O2 users but I imagine there is a similar think in place for other network operators.

    To all on o2 PAYG .. get your phone on RMA by talking to live chat on the LG site or o2 and get them to upgrade it for you as it is still under a warranty. The easiest option for all of us suffering with this nonsense.

    How long did the handset freeze for at 4%? Did you leave it or switch it off/unplug it? There have been instances where the phone pauses for a short period early in the process of upgrading.     For a big company like LG developing 2.2 for GT540 should be no problem! A single russian developer did great work and released an almost perfect 2.2.1 ROM, but unfortunately didn’t finish it. Soooo 2.2 is definatley possible. It now only depends if LG wants to do something for his customers, or is lazy. i hope it isn’t the latter…

    wouldn’t bother waiting. dont think lg are going to sort this out anytime soon. do what i did and update using the kdz updater, it’s so simple to use. i instaled the baltic 2.1 rom and it’s working perfect on my o2 pay as you go gt540.

    I’ve been following this blog for a while now. Despite the fact that numerous individuals have posted about O2 PAYG phones not being able to get the update, and after contacting customer services myself (twice) I see no resolution.
    This is meant to be the official LG blog. Why are you telling people that the update is available? Your technical team (via customer services) have told me that the update has been taken offline due to compatibility issues.
    They advised looking here to get the latest news, but you seem remarkably uninformed for an LG employee.
    Please update the official text at the top of the blog to reflect the true circumstances of the update rather than just re-posting the same message telling people that it’s available when your own CS team tell people it’s not.

    I don’t know why some of you guys can’t upgrade GT540 from 1.6 to 2.1. It works perfectly for me. Back in early January 2011, I couldn’t get the update. Somehow it was not available using the mobile phone update apps, but around late January, I finally get to upgrade to 2.1 using the official mobile phone update. Oh, and I from Indonesia.

    Right now I was hoping for official 2.2 from LG. Lots of apps I wanted to install but running out internal memory, while my micro sd still in pretty huge capacity mode.

    Any chance we will get the update soon? Let’s say late February perhaps?

    Having just deleted and re-loaded the updater and drivers, I’m now, AT LAST been told that new software is available. Bit late in the day to attempt upgrade now (due at work soon), I will attempt it tomorrow. WISH ME LUCK……

    Same with mine. O2 PAYG is now showing as v20b but at 4% it gives the communication error. Even going into emergency mode doesn’t help – it then happens all over again.

Funny how a 2.2 build by non-LG is reported to be working happily in the wild. Anyone would think LG don’t want to support the 540 as they have newer Optimuses to push…

    hi there i tried updating to 2.1 i got to the update and got to 4% and it said communication error i tried a different pc and it said software up to date then tried first pc again but just said up to date aswell so am getting really frustrated you buy the phone and expect to get the update if there is one not all this agro and should not have to pay £20 for those of you who did

    I’ve got mine sorted last night..
    Remove the memory card completely, charge it up too.
    This only worked for me with a fast laptop with windows 7 os.
    I tried for days to get it to work on the other computers with the same 4% and stop.
    You got to load all the software with the phone disconnected, first with the update screen to get the computer to read the phone, then the syncronising program,
    . it puts up a screen and you need to press a button to start it, REMOVE the phone first.
    Once loaded switch the phone off and then connect it up, you will wait a while at 4% but then it moves on pretty quickly.
    The sims 3 doesnt work on mine after but the rest is good.

    I’ve updated my phone to Android 2.1 now, without any problems :) , i hope LG makes Android 2.2 available as well at some point, as there are already a lot of apps that i want to use, but are only compatible with Android 2.2+(apps like Machinima, and the latest YouTube app for Android, and many others…) :’(

    so are these updates going to go past 2.1 , it could really do with froyo and the eclair update didnt go easy so maybe to restore your companys faith in people it should be available ive seen it posted on android forums so a genuine lg release is possible i know you’ve bigger and better fones to deal with but the gt540 with constant updates still wont shadow these, so come on listen to your end users we all want an update where we can install apps to the sd card i was looking at your 3d optimus earlier but sadly was put off by the experiance ive had with the gt540 please restore my faith and release a froyo or gingerbread update

    like other i check and no formal update on this page. you read the comments you know the problem and reply the team are working. this is poor , put a formal update out so we know what it going on. lg need to look and protect the customer base. you may be ok at the moment but when you don’t look after customer they will stay clear of lg products. i will never waste my money on lg.

    I Attempted to update my LG GT540 when the update first came out and it didn’t work and the phone completed malfunctioned and had to be basically completed replaced and it took a few months to do this.

    So can i update my phone to 2.1 yet ?
    I have been waiting forever and i don’t want to risk the phone breaking again as its costs me a lot of time and money to contact you and get it replaced. Its ridiculous !!

    im sorry but… you have been working on the update to 2.1 for the last 6 months or so and still not completely ready? 2.3.3 exists now!!!! if your handsets can not keep up with Google Androids OS DON’T USE IT!!!! im still waiting for my upgrade to 2.1 for o2 PAYG… when i tired it upgrade it ended up on some portuguese network!? Honestly this is a disgrace.

    i took this question to our team and i am of the understanding that it’s not to do with whether or not they will, but more a case of if the handset and specifically the drivers can handle the upgrade without affecting performance in any other area of the handset.     all i can say is that i have been told that a solution is imminent. And with regards to giving you the number for HQ – when i reference HQ i am talking about the Korean offices as the problem was escalated to that level.
    I really am chasing as much as possible to get a solution and i understand that this is a huge in convenience for all of you. If you want to escalate a complaint then you can do that through customer services

    just got my gt540 on 02 payg updated to 2.1 from lgmobile update the update went smooth enough but when my phone reset and turned back on i was getting constant force closes coundnt make calls and couldnt even acess contacts but a factory reset fixed this

    Major flop for LG. Here in Portugal same problems with updating, TMN the network provider took two weeks to answer to the question of updated lg gt540 availability. Bought two with 1.6, one i managed to update, the other no. The internet mobile forums are loaded with this same problems of updating to 2.1

    The problem at 4% and stop has something to do with the lg modem being accessed while hooked up to the computer through the usb cable. You should be telling this to your technical department. The update worked for me when i had loaded the update program but before installing the update on my phone , disabling the lg modem in my pc systems tree. The only time it worked!!!!!!!

    I had the same problem, it has something to do with the lg modem when it is hooked up by usb, It seems to stop the process. I steps i took were 1, load the update program till it recognises the phone. 2, go to the hardware tree on the pc’s system and you will find lg modem as a device. 3 disable the lg modem. 4, download and follow instructions with the update program. I tried updating the phone like 10 times before i eventually found out this information. I dont know why LG (larfin gits) dont know why this is the case and simply tell evrybody who is having a problem that this is the fix.

    All you people who cannot upgrade to 2.1 are I think Pissing in the Wind, the lead time for LG to sort this out are now stupid ,It shouldnt take this long, the GT540 will out of date soon so will never get done, I bought mine purely because LG stated it was upgradeable anf anybody should take it back and ask for a refund for misrepresentation, I am lucky because minbe did upgrade on second attempt.
    Lg are now just playing with you and treating you all as MUGS.

    I Have an LG GT 540. I tried to upgrade from 1.6 to 2.1 yesterday. I downloaded what i had to & followed all the steps as shown on this page. http://www.lg.com/uk/android/index.jsp

    The “Analysis” & “Download” & “Update” All went good. Then before going into the last step, It went into emergency calls or mode nd the screen went blue. A msg popped up, saying something like, there was a connection error, please Disconect the usb cable from phone take battery out & put it back in nd reconnect it pc nd press continues.. well something like that i dont remember the full msg. I did just like it said… Well nothing happend. The phone went dead!! It doesn’t work at all anymore, it’s not functioning at all, i tried to hold down the volume key button & start, also many other things but nothing works. it’s just dead. it wont charge, usb doesnt work. Absolutely nothing works =(((( I followed all the steps correctly, please help me!! i just got this phone couple days ago

    Tried to update and went to 4% and stayed there for 2 1/2 hours and now when i switch my phone it displays fastboot mode and i can’t use my phone

    Hopefully cos the 2.1 upgrade has pretty much made my phone useless. 8 hours it took to recieve 3 texts, cals don’t connect on in coming or outgoing either!!! Rubbish update!!!

    is there going to be an upgrade to 2.2 or not simple question please give a simple answer to us the customer, not ive been intouch with HQ and there looking into it, ask them straight is there going to be an upgrade to froyo 2.2 or do we all have to go out and buy new phones stop stringing us along you can only give the same answers so many times ie ive been intouch with HQ and they are working on this i wouldnt buy a sat nav that coudnt be updated to the latest maps otherwise it would be pointless andriod is comming on leaps and bounds were are we now at LG 1.6 or maybe 2.1 if it dont mess up stop giving us the same old info and run around and give us something like we have got you 2.2,/And to mr LGBLOGUK if you cant your not saying enough for the people that own a GT 540 and we need someone that will stand up for us so i guess you should stand down of the payroll that we lg 540 GT payers pay for

    Why does it still say available to o2 users at the top of til page?
    o2 have clearly stated to many of its customers, including myself that they do not support the upgrade due to the amount of phone’s that are being bricked by this rubbish update by LG

    Update your web page with a bit of truth
    Have some respect for us consumers rather than feeding us bullshit

    LG are the only manufacturers that cannot update their own phones
    All other manufacturers did it months ago and have also deployed 2.2 with 2.3 coming

    FFS even Russian hackers managed to get 2.2 on the GT540

    Surely 5months after a promised update this should have been sorted by now?

    One of the troubleshooting issues was to simply leave it when it gets to 4%. The engineers say it will pause at this point for sometime…

    Hey, I have installed that LG Mobile Support Tool, everything proceeded fine until the Support Tool crashed.

    Once or twice the phone showed a blue screen with the message that says “Emergency Mode”, but as soon as it’s switched off and on again it’s fine. So I re-start the upgrade process thinking it was just a glitch.

    The Mobile Support Tool crashed again, now my phone would initialise with a all white LG logo, and a colourful logo – presumably that of Android… and the phone shows a problem message saying that I could either force close, or wait.

    What do I have to do to make the phone work again? It is only 6 months old, seems a shame that it broke so soon. I had higher expection from LG products before this. Any help would be gratefully received.

    Just spoke to Customer Service, they want £23.50 just to look at my phone, and then there may be additional charges to have it fixed – all because of my trust in the brand and never saw the need to register.

    I have had numerous products from yourselves over many years – various computer components, TV (still in use), monitor (which lasted me 7 years)… They’ve always proven to be good value for money, and certainly extremely reliable, up to now.

    Unfortunately this GT540 upgrade and after sales “support” has thoroughly dented my confidence in the brand.

    In all honesty I expected LG to be able to do better than this.

    Hey, I installed teh LGMobile Update but I just cannot get it to connect to my GT540. I installed the USB drivers but I still couldn’t. Then I tried with Recovery Phone and the update appeared and started to scan my computer, but when the scan reached 30% it stopped and informed me that there was no connection with my phone. Now I can’t update although I really want to. Please somebody tell me what should I do.

    Do not send it in for repair or update. they told me to do that for a free update to 2.1, i did then was charged for them to look at it, charged for parts which in my opinion i didn’t need my phone was fine! AND THEN HAD THE CHEEK TO SEND IT BACK WITH A DODGY OPERATING SYSTEM! I have no welcome screen, i am stuck on handwriting mode when i text, I virtually had to force them to give me the new update, Now i have a dodgy phone. which is still in guarantee, but they won’t replace. I will never buy lg again, I’ll buy HTC or Samsung or sony next. Pay the extra guys get a make you can trust! leave these jokers dig they’re own graves in these bleak finantial times. by not helping they’re customers properly they’ve lost my confidence. We all deserve refunds!

    Or go to an expert and ask him/her to put the CyanogenMod 6.1 on your phone if you really really need the 2.2. (and if you don’t need the fm radio, xvid/divx codecs, and camera video in h264/mp4)

    Yes, I’ve ditched my GT540 and got an HTC Desire S – that company has proper customer support. My experience with LG over the GT540 has put me off from ever buying anything LG again.

    It must be getting near to 9 months since this fiasco started, I any body still believes that LG will sort out 2.1 or even offer 2.2 must be living in a Dreamworld, Although i managed to upgrade to 2.1 its definately the end of road for me with LG.

    in need of some serous help. Ive just tried to upgrade my phone and all was going fine until 4% when it froze and disconnected itself. As I didnt know what to do I removed the lead and tried to turn off. It still said download and would not respond so I removed the battery.. Now it wont do anything. What can I do.

    Same thing happened to me;
    1. Unplug USB
    2. Remove the battery
    3. Hold the volume down button (LHS of phone) and reinsert USB lead at the same time
    4. I then re-ran the update program.

    The easiest thing might be to do a hard restart, you can search that pretty easily on Google.

    lg support is just plain crap 4 posted item no replies etc i upgrade phone using developer and 3rd party support sites. all done by by son so all you with old phones just give it to  a 15 year old kid and all will be sorted. i think lg need to offer my son a job!!!!

     Hi all, I was using android 1.6 and faced some problems so, I went to the  Vodafone Center and handed in my phone for repair. I tracked my phone using the webpage they gave me and found that android 1.6 was reinstalled. It took me 1 weak to get my GT540GO fixed and I got it from the shop. Then today (Saturday, 21 May 2011) I ran the LG updater and found out that my phone could be updated to ANDROID 2.1.1 so I clicked on “Start Update” and flowed the procedures and got my phone UPGRADE TO ANDROID 2.1.1 (SUCCESSFULLY).  I only hand one issue where the update stopped at 4% but then I just followed the advise and got it going again. 
                                                     
                     Thanks a lot LG and Vodafone for the brand new experience of android 2.1.1. 

    Just can’t wait for Android 2.2 or even higher versions!!

    I just followed the Instructions, such as; Disconnect the devise from the computer, take off the battery, connect the device back to the computer (while doing so press the volume button down), put the battery back on and press “Restart” on the update manager. The update will restart from 4% onwards I think. Wait for a wile the upgrade take some time. While the phone devise is being update you will notice that the phone restarts don’t worry, it all good. When the update IS OVER exit the Update Manager and your devise is ready to be used. It might be slow after the update but don’t worry just restart your devise and experience the power of Android 2.1. update 1. 
                           PS: I just followed the instructions the Update manager told me.

    I tried my 540 O2 PAYG and it finally worked – no problem whatsoever. Just let it run its course – it takes ages to complete.

    I have bought my LG GT540 from Carphone Warehouse about 6 months ago. Today, I have tried to update it, and then I found out that the LGMobile update does not find my phone connected when it actually is connected. I have downloaded everything, from Phone driver to USB driver,but the LG PC suite says “Disconnected. Please connect the phone.”, I am also using windows Vista, also when I press update smartphone, it asks me to connect the phone to PC with the USB cable… Please Help, getting annoyed….

    I had a similar problem. Try going into settings > SD card & phone storage and untick mass storage only. Then reconnect the phone and see if that makes any difference.

    I’ve had no problems with my Optimus 540 at all, everytime I have updated, it’s all fine. On 2.1.1 now, but I think that LG has forgotten about it’s Optimus 540 users as Android 3 is about to be released. Thanks LG!

    Im on O2 and in the list of supported models my phone (LG GT540) is among them yet my phone shows up as the GT540G0 which wouldn’t be an issue except the supported models for O2 only include the GT540G0 with th V20b s/w and mine shows up as haing V10A…what do I do??

    I’m stuck at 4% for 1 hour now…The screen was blue (Emergency Mode) so I removed the USB, then removed the battery, reconnected the USB (while pressing the Vol. Down button), inserted the battery, restarted the update and it got stuck again at 4%. The screen now isn’t blue at least (Download Mode). How long did you have to wait at 4%?

    Clearly these lazy ballbags (LG) are never going to release an update. Get on some forums and just upgrade the phone to 2.1 (or higher) yourselves. I mean it’s been months now. Use some initiative. I upgraded to 2.1 months ago used a hacked rom. Took about 20 minutes and no problems since.

    Just wonder if there is any point waiting for a new update? i am on 2.1 and i saw a difference at the start but now its slowed right down again, my phone rings quiet then i have to wait like 10 seconds before i can see who it is, when i play songs (aac/mp4 format) on my phone i have to wake the phone to play the next track most of the time, and some of my alarms/ringers don’t work even on default. I had it from a catalogue and they keep getting me to phone a tech guy, they wont exchange it or take it back and its gonna cost me like £200 and i’ve had it a year.

    Well the Sony Ericsson Xperia X10 skipped Android 2.2 and went straight from Android 2.1 to Android 2.3 in the last update it had…, so i guess there’s still hope for the LG GT540. :)

    To anyone with a GT540 who wants to upgrade. Just google this “xda gt540 optimus android development” and you will find all the info you need to upgrade to a custom 2.1, 2.2 or 2.3. There are many solid projects out there that will amaze you and put LG to shame. I’m currently running 2.3.5 (CyanogenMod 7) and everything works.

    For all those having the problem that “your cellphone has the latest software already”

    Keep trying to re-connect your phone and as if by magic, that update button appears as pink!
    What i did was i just clicked on language, re-selected english
    Then it began reconnecting all over again
    Then all of a sudden an my cellphoes does NOT have the latest software and i can update
    O_o
    Wierd but true .. it happened …

    I upgraded my android system form 1.6 to 2.1 with absolutely no problems,but now i cant cant send messages or make calls (can receive them ok) The phone was originally Meteor but i got it unlocked to use a Vodafone sim any chance that ha anything to do with it?
