LG at the Freeze Festival

October 29th, 2010 by LG Blog UK

I think the majority of us can all agree that a festival is a great thing – music, entertainment and some quality time with your friends. But the festival season is too short, confined by the temperamental nature of our British summer. Well forget that, as today is the first day of the Freeze Festival, the UK’s biggest winter sports and music event. Taking place at London’s spectacular Battersea Power Station, and LG will be there - the skyline at Freeze is dominated by LG’s Big Air World Cup snow jump that stands 32m high, 100m long and is made of...

Android reach the 100,000 applications mark

October 28th, 2010 by LG Blog UK

With the recent release of the Windows Phone 7 operating system it seems the other operating systems have been out of the spotlight of late. That was until the news surfaced that Google’s Android OS has reached the 100,000 appsmark in the Android Marketplace. In comparison to Apple’s application store, Google have about a third the number of applications, but the growth rate between the two is incomparable. Since March Google have managed to triple the number of applications in their market place. It is worth noting that Google run an open licensing policy, meaning programmers developing applications can add proprietary...

The Ofcom Communications Market report 2010 has stated that multi-tasking media consumption is on the rise amongst Britons, with more and more people absorbing content from more than one device at any time. The Ofcom report states that the media consumer’s digital day is seven hours and five minutes in length, including radio, TV, surfing the internet and texting. In context this means that our media consumption takes up a quite astonishing 45% of our day, so...

LG Optimus 7 – video review

October 26th, 2010 by LG Blog UK

Christmas is something that I have sadly outgrown, however the term ‘like a kid at Christmas’ was certainly an appropriate term for my reaction when the new LG Optimus 7 landed on my desk last week. The handset uses Microsoft’s brand new Windows Phone 7 OS and is packed full of features, some exclusive to Microsoft’s OS and some exclusive to LG. We have put together a short video introducing the LG Optimus 7, as well as showing off a number of the great features on the handset including Voice-to-Text and ScanSearch that are both exclusive to the LG handset. Last week...

Asimo and the future of robotics

October 22nd, 2010 by LG Blog UK

Here at the LG blog we have a keen interest in robots, so while recently spending some time catching up on the latest in this field, reading gorobotics.com’s list of the top 10 robots of the past decade, I was impressed with the range of robots that have been developed over the past ten years. They ranged from toys for the family like the Pleo robotic dinosaur (we want one for the office) that succeeded the Furby, right to the other end of the spectrum with serious pieces of military technology including the Predator Drone unmanned aerial vehicle and the PackBot...
