Android have had a good couple of days from the sound of things. Firstly they announced that market research from the NDP group had them listed as the highest selling smartphone in the US for the first ever time, with a 33% share of the market. This marks the first time the Google running smartphone has outsold the iPhone, who had a 21% market share, and the Blackberry who dropped as market leader with a 28% share*.

Android’s share of the market looks destined to increase with their latest announcement today – the update to Facebook for Android. It was previously fairly generally accepted that the iPhone had the better Facebook program, but Google have stepped up to the challenge with their Facebook update, which makes browsing Facebook Mobile a much more pleasant experience.

The key updates for Facebook are:

-       a draggable notification bar that sits at the bottom of the screen

-       a photo reel above the notification bar that shows all your friends’ photo updates

-       view and respond to events without leaving Facebook Mobile.
