To celebrate the release of LG’s new LG Optimus Android powered phone we have put our heads together and compiled a list of our 10 favourite apps available for Android users.

Picture 101. Shazam – Everyone is familiar with Shazam. Simply download this little beauty for free, hold it up to a speaker when you don’t know the song and it will very handily identify it for you.

2. Twidroid – Tweeting on the go is now a basic human right surely. Thankfully Twidroid will help you do this. When you open the app you will immediately be confronted with all the latest tweets from those you follow complete with avatar, display name software used, message, and a button to access tweet options. Quick, easy and convenient!

3. Spotify – Yes, you do need Spotify premium for this app to work on your phone, however it does give you access to a literally unending supply of music at your fingertips. Worth the money undoubtedly, especially if you are like me and never know what you want to listen to from day to day.

4. My Perfect Egg Timer – Boiling the perfect egg is an exact science, as demonstrated by this app. My Perfect Egg Timer takes the diameter and temperature of your egg into consideration as well as your altitude (via GPS) to ensure you get the perfect boiled egg.

5. Wordpress Android – Keep on top of your blog on the go. Wordpress android allows you to blog, edit and even receive by the minute notifications.

6. Percent Off – A recent LG Survey found that UK smartphone users predominantly used apps to save themselves money. Well all fans of sale shopping will love this app, as it calculates the percentage you are saving on all sale items.

7. Layar – Augmented reality is brilliant. It makes everything look like Tron. With Layar on your phone you simply look at the screen to see the world around you with real time layered digital information. For example, you can see all the local pizza restaurants in the area and how far they are located from you and in which direction.

8. Google Maps – obvious, but second to none if you are lost. Also with Google Maps on Android you get the Android exclusive Google powered Sat-nav.

9. Abduction – For the time being mobile phones don’t have the power to replace games consoles as your main gaming outlet. However, very occasionally a simple game comes along that you cannot put down due to the addictive nature of it. Abduction is one of those, as you use the phones accelerometer to help a cow jump from platform to platform to rescue his bovine buddies from a UFO. It sounds odd, but you won’t be able to put it down!

10. Kindle – A big gap in the Android apps market will soon be filled as the Kindle app becomes available to Android users stateside over the summer, following into the UK shortly after. Available for free, the Kindle app will allow you to download books onto your phone, meaning you only have to pay for the cost of the book.
