This has upset me some what, so we are the guinea pigs for testing on. I have my lg gw620 on contract for 18 months i got it thinking it was future proof so now im stuck with it till it ends. Im with mikimyky i would never get another lg phone as this is just not what i thought they would do. Giving customers what they want??? not what they did for this customer!

Dear customer!
GW620 impossible to upgrade till 1.6 or 2.00 or higher Android versions, cause of function buttons. Androin beginning from 1.6 operate with 5 buttons, not 3 like GW620.

Here is very few points, why lg need to give upgrade
1, All Apps like many Gmail accounts not support in this version
2. Google apps like google earth, google map 4.2 and others apps like flash player donot support,

if you compare Android and WM, you will find maximum apps you can upgrade and install weather it is WM 5, 6, 6.1 but here Android has limitation , So in one PDA or Smartphone a users will look into this and that is why its most important Android phone at least..

NEVER buy an Android from LG. After the lies and misleading information about the GW620, I will NEVER again buy from LG. They LIED and told us they would provide 1.6 by SPRING 2010. Then they said END OF SPRING…now the latest is that they will send to Rogers for TESTING in SEPTEMBER! They also LIED and said they will not upgrade further beyond 1.6 due to hardware limitations, yet the DEV community has 100% evidence that this phone can run 2.1 and 2.2. LIARS.

will this be getting the 2.2 froyo OS update applied prior to release or at any point after release as i have noticed LG are not keen on updating phones after release?

Also, what size internal memory will this sport as apps are not able to be placed to an SD card still on unrooted phones running 2.1?

Hi,
thanks for your message. The GW620 was always intended to be an entry level android phone for first time smart phone users. And when it is viewed in that way it is a good phone (the reviews here – http://www.techradar.com/reviews/phones/mobile-... – are indicative of this). Certain features have been left out to cut back on cost (bluetooth for example) whilst the use of android 1.5 is an example of a way of keeping the phone simple for first time users.
When you consider the other phones available in the same price bracket as the GW620 (like the Samsung Galaxy Portal) then you realize that these specifications are fairly standard, whilst the GW620 has some additional features like the slide out 5 line QWERTY keyboard.

Hi…I own a lg gw620 and it is a good cellphone but,but have some big minuses…first android 1.5 and no chance for upgrading to 1.6 or higher, bluetooth is not working for file-transfer,video recording better without it,and when you consider this in the end I think LG can fix all this…at least some of this minuses otherwise they looking to me like very amateur company…they release a phone then thats it…lets go to new one…and what about people who own for example gw620,we are let empty-handed for improvement and sincerely I am thinking this is my last LG product.I hope LG can prove me wrong.

I personally use a GW620 and have no problems with it. Yes android 1.5 is slower than the newer versions, but this is always going to be the case.
The GW620 was always an entry level smart phone available on much cheaper contracts when compared to other smart phones.

Also RE android update on the GW620; there are no plans for an update in the UK on this. Have heard rumours about this happening in Canada, but they may just be rumours.
