LG bring the 3D experience to their lucky competition winners
April 8th, 2010 by joeO
Saturday was the first public broadcast of football in 3D and LG were at the Aldgate Exchange pub on Whitechapel High Street with the winners of our competition to watch the match. We had our own Life’s Good corner in the pub exclusively for the winners’ use, as well as stylish 3D glasses for the winners to wear and keep after the event.
The match being broadcast in 3D was Manchester United V Chelsea, a game that could well decide the Premiership winner for the season so the tension before kick off was palpable. For the majority of people attending it was the first time they had used 3D and the reception was amazing. People of all ages attended and got involved, donning their passive technology 3D glasses to watch the game on the 47inch LG LD920 3DTV. The build up for the match was screened partially in 3D allowing people to try out their glasses before kick off, as well as enjoying a trailer highlighting Sky’s commitment to 3D as golf, boxing and rugby were all previewed in 3D for the watching crowd.

The 3D experience undoubtedly added to the atmosphere in the pub. Everyone was excited to be trying out a new technology and the general consensus was that it was one that was destined to catch on. One happy Chelsea fan told me that it was a totally different experience to watching films and that he cannot wait to watch the World Cup in 3D with his friends who have not tried it yet. When we asked people to describe the 3D experience the most common response was that it is something that needs to be seen to be fully appreciated, as words don’t do it justice.

We caught up with some of the competition winners to hear their opinions after the match. For many of them it was their first experience of 3D and they left as 3D fans.
We’d love to hear from any of you who were lucky enough to catch the game in 3D. Share your opinions and thoughts in the comment section below.
