TruMotion vs MotionFlow
March 12th, 2010 by Dave@LGUK
TruMotion is LGs motion interpolation technology. Which begs the question… What is motion interpolation?
TV is recorded at a frame rate of 25, 50, 30 or 60 (the first two being PAL, the latter being NTSC). When this number is less than the fixed frame rate of a display, such as an LCD screen, frames are simply repeated to fill in the time before the next frame. This results in a visual ‘jumpiness’ in the picture known as a judder. Motion interpolation corrects this judder by independently generating intermediate frames to produce a more fluid picture.
TruMotion vs MotionFlow
You may well be asking yourselves, what makes TruMotion better than any of the numerous competitor motion interpolation technology? Well looking at MotionFlow 200Hz, Sony’s motion interpolation system, it is clear that it uses the traditional format of filling the time between ‘true frames’ with ‘new frames’. When this is compared to LG’s equivalent: TruMotion 200Hz, it is apparent that it uses a different approach, employing frame insertions alongside scanning backlight technologies which flash on and off producing actual black frames between true and inserted frames. This in turn reduces motion blur, improves contrast levels in dark scenes and increases sharpness on the whole.
Combine TruMotion 200Hz with full HD1080p and super IPS panel technology and the consumer can expect the clearest, most true to life images regardless of the pace of the onscreen action.
