LG and Dolby have teamed up to bring Dolby 5.1 surround sound to your phone.
“Dolby Mobile is designed to give consumers a full-impact audio experience for movies, videos and music,” says Rolf Schmitz, marketing director, Mobile, Dolby Laboratories.
“This version includes Dolby Digital Plus technology, which provides realistic surround sound for headphone playback, as well as 5.1-channel surround sound playback on home entertainment systems from the mobile device via high definition multimedia interface (HDMI),” he added.
LG and Dolby first collaborated in June 2008 and have been producing smartphones with Dolby Technology since then, but this latest offering is the first to utilize 5.1 multichannel surround sound on a mobile phone. The surround sound effects are created much like virtual surround sound that can be found on some TVs and is specifically designed for a discreet mobile surround experience. Dolby and LG have used Dolby Tech in 20 handsets, with the GD880 Mini being the next planned release with Dolby Mobile.
Dolby Mobile is available on the LG GC900 Viewty Smart and the LG KM900 Arena phones
