Worldwide Photowalk
June 24th, 2009 by Dave@LGUKI recently became aware of the Worldwide Photowalk, it’s a brilliant idea – Photowalks are “a social photography event where photographers get together, usually in a downtown area or trendy section of town, to walk around, shoot photos, and generally have fun with other photographers” they are free to take part in and open to anyone – although, for practicality all walks are limited to a maximum of 50 people per walk.
Q. How many cities and people participated in last year’s Photo Walk?
A. We had:
1. 8.324 photographers register for local walks
2. 47 Countries had participating cities
3. 44 States in the US had Photo Walks
4. We had a total of 236 cities worldwide
5. More than 1,017,125 photos were taken on walks that day
Next month an international challenge will be undertaken – with walks arranged all over the world for photographers to submit images for one massive grand prize. At the end of each walk, all participants can submit their favourite photo of the day, their walk leader then chooses an overall winner from the event and each of these go to a panel of judges as part of the Worldwide Photowalk 2009 competition.
There are currently walks planned all over the world – from Albania to Yugoslavia! – and they don’t only happen on July 18th (the date of the global competition walk) so if you’re into photography and fancy meeting some fellow enthuasists in your area check out the walks available. Happy snapping!
