Invisible bikes no longer just for LOLcats?

May 11th, 2009 by Dave@LGUK

According to a BBC report Scientists have created a cloak which "rendered objects invisible under near-infrared light." Unlike previous such "cloaks", the new work does not employ metals, which introduce losses of light and result in imperfect cloaking. Because the approach can be scaled down further in size, researchers say this is a major step towards a cloak that would work for visible light. Tiny holes all over the cloak bend the light around the bump Xiang Zhang, Professor of Mechanical Engineering at the University of California, Berkeley lead one of the two teams working on this project: "Essentially, we are transforming a straight line...

Rio from above

May 11th, 2009 by Dave@LGUK

Following on from the post I did a while ago about photos of London at night taken by aerial photographer Jason Hawkes, now you can take a look at Rio from the air, only this is a cross between aerial photography and Google's Street View! It's a comprehensive bird's eye view of Rio de Janeiro with 360 degree range, but the way the images distort and respond to my mouse movements makes me pretty dizzy - my browser ended up dancing on the sands (sorry, couldn't resist a song reference!) and I felt rather queasy! Impressive site but not for the...

May 7th, 2009 by Dave@LGUK

You may remember Helen recently writing about the Loop Football Photo competition, which gave users the opportunity to showcase and share their best photos with a community of like-minded enthusiasts as well as their friends and family. Well the competition is open once again, so if you fancy the chance to win £1000 and think you've got what it takes to beat our Pro Sports Photographers, make sure you enter the competition here. Be quick though, the football competition closes with the season on 29 May. In case you hadn't noticed there is also another monthly competition based around Life's Good ,...

Is There A Doctor On Motherboard?

May 7th, 2009 by agenda21

Stuart Maconie once said that computer peripherals were the modern journalist's addiction. And what way to better wean yourself off an USB-led addiction than with a USB fix? Dr. Hard Drive backs-up your files automatically and glows as its's being juiced, with the "vaccine software" launching automatically when you plug in. Still in concept stage, we're hoping this gets approved by NICE so I can keep my old laptop on life support for a few years...

It is not just the brand image they have been working hard to improve - your average LG display now has some of the most cutting edge technologies employed in well priced displays throughout...

Get Your Fangs Into This

May 5th, 2009 by agenda21

Following on from slow-food movement comes the slow-reading movement - Whitney Sorrow has set up the Dracula Feed blog, where she'll be drip-feeding tasty morsels (sorry) of Bram Stoker's Dracula. The neat thing here though is that as Dracula is an epistolary novel (meaning it's written as a series of diary entries), so you can subscribe to the RSS feed and read the book in real-time. Clever...

Living Sasquatch – your very own virtual Bigfoot!

May 1st, 2009 by Dave@LGUK

The link of the morning in our office (Congrats Mike!) was Living Sasquatch - Sasquatch might be better known as Bigfoot over here.. At least I didn't get it immediately, could just be me though! By either printing off the footprint, or downloading it to your phone and then filming it through your webcam and the site's built-in system you can make your own video clips of the programmable Yeti (they are Yeti, right!?). Cleverly the size of your Sasquatch can be adjusted simply by downloading bigger/smaller footprints - Sasquatch will always be to the same scale as his mark -...
