Ready to wear Muppets – Jean-Charles de Castelbajac plays with our childhood!

Yes, yes, I know. I’m ridiculously slow to only just be mentioning this show now but I just had to share.. photo of Jean-Charles de Castelbajac’s A/W 09 RTW runway show for Paris Fashion Week.

The Muppet stuff makes me uncomfortable, these beloved childhood characters shouldn’t be carved up for clothes – I bet you’re surprised to hear such a thing from veggie, tree-hugging me! But I did like a lot of the ideas and the playfulness of this collection, particularly the animal sleeves:

and the portrait dresses complete with hair!

Not to mention the plastic mac-hair combo and other items made with plastic layers, which managed to remind me of childhood walks in rainy/muddy parks and Little Shop of Horrors (somewhere that’s greeen!) simultaneously!

You can see the whole show on Elle.

Wow this post rocks! Actually i’ve already seen some pics of this runway show, as well as some others, and my opinion Jean-Charles is an art creator, just like Alexander McQueen. This idea was just fabulous!

I love the idea of a Kermit pelt. I’m a huge muppets fan, but their image has been ruthlessly masacared by fashion anyway (just look at the prevalance of Animal tshirt in New Look) so its a nice little satirical comment.

Good point Cool Gadget Expert, I hadn’t really thought of it like that!
